BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/depthChart.jsp

I'm guessing this is a quick preliminary one, which may not be the final depth chart, but still, very interesting...

Clarence Moore is not listed at all
Dwan Edwards is not listed at all
Justin Green is listed as our starting FB
Evan Oglesby and Corey Ivy are the 2nd string CBs, with Ronnie Prude, Derrick Martin and David Pittman all 3rd string
Gerome Sapp is listed as the starting FS with Dawan third string behind Jamaine Winborne
Stover is listed as the KOS

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

Clarence Moore is on the PUP, (I think), so that's why he's not listed. I'm not sure about Dwan Edwards.
Green better start ahead of Mughelli!
The rest of what you mention is messed up, IMO.

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

well, Jamison mentioned that Darling was listed above Demetrius Williams on the depth chart, but that certainly won't be the case for the opener, so it could just be the rotation to give some bubble players a chance...

also, it lists Ed Reed as our FS! That's been a big debate over whether Ed is considered a FS or SS, with the debate focusing on where he lines up vs what role he plays in the D. That'll be an interesting call for some people on the Scout board...

and I am DEFINITLEY glad Justin Green is starting over Mughelli.

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

My thoughts:

- Seeing Terry listed at RT and not LT worries me immensely, people must be getting bored with my harping on about this but Terry simply is not a right tackle. He is and is only a left tackle. His technique is perfectly matched to the QBs blind side with his emphasis on technique and pass blocking. He doesn't have the leg drive to play right tackle at all, particularly considering our previous penchant for maulers at RT, Terry is most definately not a mauler.

- I am still very worried about our DE situation, in particular the depth. I know we have our tweeners there as cover, but they are just that, cover. If Suggs and/or Pryce goes down then we're short at DE, guys like Adalius are great to rotate in at DE as are all the others but I don't think we a have a player outside of Pryce who is a true every down DE this is an area that if we're reverting to four down linemen for good that I hope we address and take a serious look at someone like Gaines Adams in next year's draft as an upgrade, or at least get a good mid tier free agent who can take the punishment on run downs for Suggs because I'm still not sold on him with his hand in the dirt full time.

- Cornerback I'm hopeful will sort itself out but what I'm most concerned about is our 3rd down defense against the pass. All the statistics from last year will show we had an immense pass D, what I want to see improved is those momentum sapping third down conversions. 'Key third downs' (wishy washy term I know) always seemed to be converted against us in my opinion last year, third downs that I felt hinged key drives in our games last year it seemed to me that our D couldn't get off the field on them. It was probably me expecting too much from the D and the D being expected to do too much for the offense, but in particular I think our coverage of tight ends on third downs is due for a big boost this year.

- At punter, please, please let Sam Koch step up and earn the punting job. Koch has to be and will be given every chance to take the job, I just hope he does the thing that rookie punters rarely do and that's come in and play well enough from day one. At times folks may even wish to have Dave Z back but I think if we bite the bullet and accept that Koch will shank a few and outkick his coverage at times then I think we have to keep a leg like his on this team. The deciding factor in this battle may not be the punters, it may be whether Gansz deems that our punt coverage units can make up for the short comings that you've gotta expect to see from a rookie punter.

Long post but just getting some thoughts out on the battles that I have kept a slight pace with during this camp.

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

Yes, I think Reed made the transition last year, with the 46. Now squeelers fans can say Polomalu(sp?) is the best SS if they want, because Ed isn't a SS, he's a FS. Reed would be better obviously, if he was still a SS.

Scsllywag here is one of those that debated this fiercely over on YBR. Ha Ha. I'll wait for a more correct depth chart, as well as the way the team lines up for a little while before I hop ack in the debate, as he was changed from SS to FS on the official site.

I tend to agree but am maybe not so worried. Jarrett Johnson is OK as DE #3. If one were to go down, we would likely run more 3-4. AD and Cody/JJ and Gregg sliding to an END opposite the remaining guy.

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

I wasn't fierce on the debate...I see it both ways.

We DRAFTED Reed to play as a SS. He got some mad INT skills a couple seasons back, so the role he's playing is more dependent on pass coverage than run support. However, the reason he was titled as a SS was because he lined up on the "Strong" side of the field.

So I guess it depends on how the Ravens want to classify it. They could be generic and just call Ed Reed a "Safety".

Re: BaltimoreRavens.com Depth Chart

Last year at this time, the website was messed up too. I wouldn't trust it until they've made the cuts.

Although the video on baltimoreravens.com is first rate this year!
