No way Troy Smith is second string with Boller third.

I say that you can't be a bust if you come in and try every play, that why i can say Boller is a bust. lets move on and see if troy has anything.

I agree, boller is a bust. However he is a capable backup, and there is no way that Troy is the 2nd string this year. In fact I hope he is not the second string b/c we have made the mistake of rushing QB's before and with the fragility (not sure if that is a real word) of Steve McNair I would hate to push a 5th round QB into a starting role in his first year.

Putting Smith ahead of Boller at qb is absurd.
I would also put Grubbs at RG and Brown at LG, where he played capably last year. I would also put Rolle ahead of Ivey, who is a decent nickel back, bless his hard working heart. But Rolle will get another season as a starter.
I will be curious to see who takes that other OLB spot. Stills? I'd be surprised. What about Haley?
Anyway, good fodder for discussion.

Right now it is but lets wait and see what happens in Preseason. Sometimes a rookie proves to his coaches, fans, and doubters that he has the right stuff. Troy is a winner and I fail to see why he wouldnt win out against Boller and win for the Ravens if given the chance.

I seriously doubt that will happen this season. They are I am sure still smarting from the damage they did throwing Boller to the wolves too early.
If what you are saying, Crazy, is that Smith is more likely going to be the quarterback of the future for the Baltimore Ravens, I actually *agree* with you. We are looking at Boller's last year as a Raven. With McNair under contract and a relatively inexpensive backup in Smith, Boller would be a very expensive luxury as a 2d stringer in '08, when he can go somewhere else and compete to be a starter instead. I'd leave, in his shoes. And I'd let him go, in the Ravens' shoes. Mutually beneficial parting of ways.
But the point of the thread is, depth chart right now.

Chris Chester is going to start at center and Jason Brown is going to start at LG. Ben Grubbs is going to start at RG and Jarret Johnson is going to start at OLB

  I knew that about Johnson.
You think this is the year for Chester to take over at center?

Couldn't agree more. This is Boller's last year with the Ravens. Smith will do what Boller should have done his rookie year and spend it on the bench learning. In '08, Boller will be gone and Smith can step into the second string role as McNair's successor.

Before the year is done, maybe Chester will be starting at center. But I doubt he will right out of camp. Too many protection calls still to learn.

I think Grubbs starts at RG, not LG, and Vincent takes a well-deserved seat on the bench. Jason Brown will be the starting LG. He did well there last year.
And as others have already mentioned, Smith will not move ahead of Boller at QB. I hope Smith works out but he shouldn't see much playing time this season unless we are very unlucky. Boller played very well as McNair's backup last year -- whether this is his last year with the Ravens or not is irrelevant. Moving a fifth round rookie ahead of him wouldn't make much sense.

I'm not a Boller believer, but one thing I can say about Boller is that the kid gives his all on every snap.
And there is no way Chester is starting at C over Flynn...Billick has a hard on for Flynn.

Center's a tough position. I don't have a problem starting a grizzled veteran there, especially when 3 of the remaining 4 players have less than one year starting each.
I think otherside_of_tracks may have meant "can't" instead of "can," but I could be wrong.

I agree that Billick is loyal to his vet Flynn. However, if Chester is given a legit shot during training camp, it will be very hard for Billick to ignore the play of Chester at the spot. Will he miss a few assignments on the line? probably as would any player playing the position 1st year.
But I would argue that Chester's superior play 98% of the rest of the plays will more then make up for a lapse in mental reps or recognizing the defense's alignment. Also Flynn is a non factor out in space ahead at the second level. Not so with Jason Brown, Chris Chester, Ben Grubbs. Those three are very fleet footed with Chester probably the most nimble.
We have potential to do alot of things at the point of attack and out on the perimeter with Willis Magehee. I simply cant see Billick ignoring that potential even though they lack the collective experiance of NFL play. Chester is already bigger and stronger then Flynn and has bulked up with a second year of NFL weight training and regimen. There is simply no way Flynn can keep up with him. That said, Flynn should serve as a very valuable backup. Playing guard and center.
The only position on the line that still presents a problem is RT. Adam Terry strikes fear in no one firing off the right side on a pitchout to the right. HE isn't aggressive and doesn't have a mean streak. He is much more of a finesse player. That will spell trouble going up against stout DE's. I do however, like him in pass pro. He should do ok there. If Grubbs is as advertised and Chester does indeed beat out Flynn. I can see us staying away from stretch plays to the outside on the right corner. I see more between the tackles and sweeps left with Brown and Ogden leading the waty along with Chester getting in the way of a OLB from the backside pursuit.
That spells big gainers in my book. Of course that means that Clayton, Dmase and Dwill will have to maintain their blocks down the field. It can be done.
