Solid move.

Probably creates some cap relief but who knows.

Can't wait for the whiners to complain about this.

Great move.

Doesn't even matter if it creates cap relief now. It creates future cap relief, and keeps a situation from getting messy.

You look at the funny money contracts given out under the new CBA to guys like Kemo who then underperform, and a guy like Gregg has to eventually wonder why he's only making 1.5 mil a year.

This keeps him happy, and actually the contract is still a steal in the longterm.

Excellent move. Glad we had a stud like him locked up for a few more years. Now onto Suggs!

Gregg was top notch this year, but didn't he sign a six year deal a couple of years ago? Or was it shorter than I'm remembering?

Excellent move. One less thing to worry about (:

Agree with all of the above, it's a good move for an underrated player.

UK, I'm pretty sure he didn't sign a six year deal a few years back. I think he signed a deal but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that lengthy.

Good for Gregg and good for us. With very little guarranteed money and in the era of huge contracts this is a favorable deal for the Ravens.

Can anyone confirm for how long Kelly Gregg is now signed?

Stated differently, does the 4-year extension begin now or after the next 2 seasons as some are suggesting on YBR?

FS...the new deal runs through 2011 according to reports. The question is, does that mean the 2011 season? That would mean a 5 year extension unless they are counting the years/seasons as follows: 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11.

Even more curiously, the NFLPA site lists the following salaries for Gregg:

2012 3500000.00
2009 3000000.00
2010 3000000.00
2011 3500000.00
2006 1200000.00
2007 800000.00
2008 3000000.00

That then looks more like a 5 year, perhaps even a 6 year extension.

Often when contracts are announced, certain nuances of the deal are overlooked or the teams by design don't report them with complete accuracy. I'll see what we can uncover...so said Dick Tracy :kewl:

Essentially it's a 4-year extension on his present deal which runs through 2008 (with a reworking of the remaining 2 years of his present deal) to get him to 2012. Assuming the NFLPA site is correct about it does go through 2012 - and those numbers match the 20.3M (including the $3.5M reported by Clayton) - it appears that Clayton just didn't count up the years correctly.
