As reported by The Sun's Jamison Hensley on his Twitter account, Ravens secondary coach Mark Carrier has decided to join NY Jets as their defensive line coach, the Ravens confirmed.

Hensley goes on to report that Carrier believes the move will make him become a defensive coordinator faster. Chuck Pagano will continue to coach Ravens defensive backs.

Am I the only one who's getting sick and tired of other teams stripping us of coaches?

Not saying that Carrier was a great secondary coach or anything, but there is something to be said about continuity.

Nope. It's a sign of a well run organization. I'd worry if they did NOT take our coaches from time to time.

Why? He is funny and not our problem.

I don't think he's funny. He's annoying, crude, loud, cocky and a blowhard. And there's a portion of our fan base who thinks he should be our coach. He's our problem when him and his lap dog Bart Scott keep running their mouths about our team and he keeps poaching our roster and coaching staff.

I like that he does not care what people think. To me that is the the funny part. He's annoying, crude, loud, cocky and a blowhard.

It does not matter that some wanted him to be our coach, he is not.

His style is not fake or some sort of act. Bart Scott did not just start saying he was going to hot sauce or slaughter someone, they never shut up before and now they have 10 times as many media seeking sound bites. They did not steal all of our coaches or free agents but they did make it farther in the post season than we did this year. What they do no longer affects the Ravens anymore than what any other team does. They were succesful enough to make names for themselves.

Chuck Pagano is the secondary coach, and he is still here so I don't think continuity will be to much of a problem.

Bring Deion in to coach the CB's.

Tell Sugar Ray to call his boy Prime and get him in, we know he likes the team, and was let down by the CB and Secondary play early on in the season.

Prime is like a full time life coach and TV star now. I doubt he has time to coach up our CBs. I would like to see the Samari Rolle in that role. He has great skills and should be much better able to teach our CBs the proper hand and feet placement than a former FS. Samari also has played and broken down a ton of film on guys we still face every week and should be able to pass on a lot of good tips and tells.

Interesting suggestion, makes a lot of sense, and Samari certainly has to have a lot of goodwill towards the organization. Tight-lipped about his condition when he asked, extra year payday of what turned out to essentially being dead money. I'd say that if he has any desire to get into coaching that there is a possible golden opportunity in front of him. No idea if he would even want to do it, but he would be near the top of the list if he did.
Only thing I have no idea about is how promotion from within the ranks works out with them now "in command" of players that they were "work buddys" with. I know Baltimore City Police move their new Sgts to another district so that they don't work over those they worked with. Football coaching I have no data in my mind.

I am ok with this move...Carrier was never going to leap frog Pagano here. Pagano is the better coach in my eyes, though I see the value Carrier brought to us. There are probably a hundred former DBs we can get who can come in and teach DB technique. Not saying that Carrier was unimportant, but I don't think this is a mortal wound.

I do find it interesting he went there to coach DL. He's a DB, he doesn't know much about DL techniques or schemes. So unless Pettine or Rex is really coaching the DL and just allowing Carrier to learn, it seems like a mismatch. It's almost akin to me hoping we bring on Michael McCrary to replace Carrier as DB coach.

Rolle would be a neat angle, I'd love to see it. Again, there are probably a lot of guys, former Ravens or not, who could be good DB coaches. We'll find someone good.

Wish Carrier best of luck.

You don't have to worry about Rex anymore since we rarely play the Jets and he's no longer a part of this organization.

I think you just have anger issues, young man.:laugh:

I think I read an article about Samari Rolle, probably on the official site, a few years ago talking about how he wanted to follow the post playing career path of Ozzie. If that is accurate, he is probably leaning more towards scouting / player evaluation rather than coaching.

Rex has never been too critical of the Ravens...the only thing he said directed at us that irked me was how he said he still felt he was the best man for the job, and trying to claim like he was the reason we hired Harbaugh, because he said "If you're not going to hire me, hire Harbaugh, he's the next best thing"...and that just irked me because it's the big headedness where he tries to make out like he's running the show.

Bart took it to a new level by saying that tons of players and coaches wanted to leave with Rex last year. That kind of comment is trying to provoke mutiny.

Rex is just being Rex, as per usual. It's slightly annoying, but it doesn't hurt us. What Bart said, was just ridiculous. I just hope Rex took him aside and taught him the importance of not burning your bridges.

Bring Deion in to coach the CB's.

DBs have to occasionally tackle and come up in run support as well.

Pass!!

Agrre with Scallywag..
Find it strange they bring in Carrier to couch D-line and the comparison to McCrary coaching DBs.

Don't know much about Pagano, but I like the idea of bringing in guys that played the positions at a high level they're being asked to coach.

Ideal type DB coach candidate in my eyes would be Rod Woodson, but he doesn't strike me as somebody that wants to be a coach.

That's the key...

Finding somebody that has the desire to coach that played well in his playing years.

What no love for Donny Brady or Issac Booth?? Subscribing to the theory those that can do, and those that can't teach, they should be great at the job.

One guy I wonder about is Bennie Thompson...he was a Special Teams Assistant with us during the SB run and for a couple years after, former DB who played a year or two with us before coaching. I thought he might've been an assistant secondary coach too. Not sure what he's doing now, but he could be beneficial.

I can't throw too many names out there because I don't think you can judge coaching ability based on career results. The only way playing career should factor in is if coaches relate that the guy constantly mentored younger players at the position. I can't come up with anyone I know who did that, so I'll leave it in the hands of Harbaugh and Mattison.

I always liked him. He had a falling out with Billick and pointed out some of the flaws in his style. He has been a great radio interview. I am not sure how he was as a coach, but he sounds like he knows what he is talking about and has a lot of passion for the game.
