Did Cleveland sue for the rights to keep the name of the Browns in Cleveland? Can you give me a link if or if not?

No, Art left Cleveland because it was a suer.

Cleveland sued to hold him to his Lease with the City.
They also sued to keep the name, etc (not sure if it was part of the same suit), but they NEVER would have won that in court. For better or worse, an owner owns the name, colors etc. It's his property, and no court of law is going to take away his property, simply because he decided to move the franchise elsewhere.
He decided to leave the name, colors and history because it helped him get himself out of Cleveland. There was nothing altruistic about it - it simply became a bargaining chip.

Common sense notwithstanding, the Clevelander trolls insisted for years that it was their e-mail campaign that forced Modell to leave behind the Browns name, colors, history. I am so glad that Modell did not pull the move like the Colts and Rams. I would have a problem trying to gather up emotions for a team named "Browns".

My second happiest moment after hearing the news that the deal was done and the team from Cleveland was moving to Baltimore was the news that they were going to leave the name and the colors behind and that we were going to choose completely new colors.
I mean really, the Browns? The Browns? Just say that about 10 times....you will see what I mean. What is it?

Agreed. The Cleveland fans did do a great job fighting for their team (of course, having the internet, fax machines, ESPN at the height of it's power, CNNSI and a weekly teary home game reminder, certainly were helpful), but there was no way that they could have forced Modell to leaving the history of the team there. No Court could/would do that and the NFL owners weren't going to set the precedent of forcing Modell to, because they wouldn't want to have to face the same thing if they ended up in his shoes in the future.
