The Sun said something to the effect that Reed won't talk to the press until camp begins and then alluded to the possibility that if Reed's neck isn't healed, he will retire. I haven't heard anything about his neck during that offseason but that would be a huge blow to the defense. Talk me off the ledge here.

I was a lot more concerned about this issue going into last year. By the end of the season Ed was back to the being the best all around defender in the game. Unless something happened since then, I expect he will pick up where he left off last year. I can see him walking away on top early like Barry Sanders, but he is the Barry Sanders of the secondary so far.

You're about to jump off the ledge based on something you heard/read in The Sun? :229031_confused2: :229031_confused2:

yeah, your reading into it too much. they didn't say "his neck is still a problem, and could force him to retire."

its Preston trying to stir up more controversy. i think based on his play last year that his neck is not a concern. the fact that he isn't talking to the media until training camp has nothing to do with an injury...

I wouldnt jump to any conclusions until I heard it straight from Ozzie, Harbs, or Reed himself.

There was speculation about this last off-season as well.

Why do we have to deal with this???

WHY???

Is there any other city with an unprofessional, instigating "reporter" like this fool?

This is why when I see an article linked by him,I dont even open it.

Please do the same folks, its not worth all the "speculation" and "drama" an "innuendo" traps you will fall into if you believe any of it.

I don't think any of you guys have a clue how serious a nerve impingement actually is. It's excruciatingly painful and there's no option for surgery just to get it fixed.

All last year I said I think Reed has one to two more seasons. After that, I think it's likely he's gonna hang 'em up. This is unconfirmed rumor-mongering from The Sun, so it's meaningless. But if you guys don't think there's a very real possibility Reed's done soon, you're fooling yourselves.

It's not a secret that Reed has a serious nerve impingement that COULD derail his career if he injures it further.

This is not a Sun or Mike Preston thing at all. Last year both Reed and the team were very worried about the situation. It all worked out but there is always a chance he could worsen the injury which could force him to make a very hard decision.

As far as him not talking to the media...IMO that has nothing to do with his neck.

Reed will be there at camp and be starting week 1 vs KC.

But as PSU says, the injury is very real and could end his career prematurely. In fact, I would say it will definitely end it prematurely but only in the sense that Reed will probably hang up the cleats a few years earlier than he would if this nerve impingement didn't exist.

I also wonder how Dawan Landry is going to do this year and wish we had more quality depth in the safety and strong safety department. Zibikowski and Nakamura are still unproven. Jim Leonhard, I wish we had found a way to keep you...

Think about our secondary and how many players have had neck issues.

Reed/Rolle/Landry/Washington all have had pretty serious issues with their necks in the recent past.
