Two-time Pro Bowl safety Rodney Harrison (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=597) announced his retirement on Wednesday, saying he is through hitting quarterbacks after a 15-year career for the New England Patriots (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nwe) and San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg).

"People have called me a dirty player. I'm a very passionate player," Harrison said. "I also understand that this is not volleyball. This is a very violent, physical game, and if you hit someone in the mouth, they're not going to be your friend. That's what the game of football is."

Now we get to hear him babel on NBC.

So long, Roidney.

You went out with the stain of tainted blood on your resume.:(

the people that hate this guy are people that are jealous of him. he was a great player and i would have loved to have him as a Raven. he intimidates with more than words, the guy laid the wood everytime he came.

I disagree... I dislike the style that Harrison played and would have hated to see him in purple... Lots of players bring the wood on every play without racking up $200,000 in fines over their careers. Troy Polamalu is a perfect example, as is John Lynch.

Why do they seem to put the players I hate the most on TV? Not only is Rodney Harrison a dirty player, but you can tell he's an asshole too.

Harrison's one of a few guys I would much rather never have on my team. Joey Porter. Warren Sapp. Romanowski when he was in the league. Great players, but no way...

I'd like to know how the TV execs decide what former players to hire.

Most are god awful.

Agreed... at least Bettis is gone now. I can't wait for Deion Sanders to retire from TV as well.

Emmitt was the worst (or best if you enjoy unintended comedy).

Jamie Dukes is right up there with Emmitt.

I think Collinsworth and Carter are pretty good.

But for the most part, former players that do the studio shows embarrass themselves.

I don't think he was a former player, but Gumble on NFLN had to be the worst.

<monotone> "And the kick is up. And it's good. No it's not."

I like Jamie Dukes. I like Collinsworth but Carter doesn't do his homework enough. Last year, he'd talk about how the Ravens had no offense and it was the same old Ravens. He had no clue as to how things had changed under Cameron and Flacco.

I have a feeling Peter King may have had something to do with it. He's been a Patriots and specifically Rodney Harrison fan boy for years now, when I heard the news I instantly thought that.

i would never want Joey Porter, that dude is a jackass. Sapp was not enough of a team player in my opinion and Romanowski was a jackass also.

i will judge Harrison on the opinion of his peers. the guy is respected throughout the league and that is not because the entire league thinks he is a dirty player. great team player and he was feared. many of his fines were hits that if a Raven had done it, you people would have gifs as your avatar.

Yeah, he has some of those.

But so does Porter, Sapp and Romo...

He has a lot that none of us would. He was a dirt-bag, and I wouldn't ever have wanted him to be a Raven.

Eck, I can't stand Chris Collinsworth. His voice is obnoxious and he is such a homer. It's pathetic.

I like Mark Schlereth a lot. I like Ron Jaworski too.

Sclereth is the master at saying a lot without saying anything at all. He'll talk and talk and talk, but you could pretty much take his point out of that in one sentence.

Homer to what?

Dude calls out more players and teams than anyone color guy out there.

Schlereth stinks too IMO.

I love Jaws too.

Indeed he does and this was Bettis' biggest problem. The Bus never once called out players.
