Does anyone know how to unsubscribe from this? I signed up in a fit of pique when in Pittsburgh for the AFCCG and now receive at least a couple of texts a day, 99% of which contain information I don't give a shit about. Plus I'm being charged for the privilege. :grbac:
I tried texting 'unsubscribe' back to them with no luck and can't find a link to do so on their website.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I just sent unsubscribe back to them and that worked.
What, you mean you don't want texts about Towson lacrosse with the "visit WNST.net" message at the bottom? :D I'm glad I opted out of that, what a joke.

If texting 'unsubscribe' doesn't work, try texting 'stop'.

Seriously. I like the Ravens updates, but when I am interrupted in a meeting because Felix Yungadawad was promoted from Single A Bumfuck it's a little annoying.

Hence the reason they call it SPAM.
WNST just ain't what it used to be.

Its not spam if you subscribed to it. :)
Now, VText is pretty cool because you can send all texts at the same time you think are appropriate.

When the service was first offered, it was appreciated. They stuck to the promise of no spamming and when a text from 68255 arrived, I knew it would be something interesting.
Now, it's annoying and a rather obvious attempt to promote their unimpressive website. Drew Forrester and Nasty can't even say their names without ending it with "on WNST.net."
There's nothing wrong with promoting a service.
There's nothing wrong with canceling one that has become an intrusion.
And yes it is spam even if you do subscribe and it inspired me to REPLY "unsubscribe."

I agree that some of the stuff that they've been sending lately has been rather annoying. Then I have to remember that this is a slow time of year for sports news, especially if your first love is football. I don't care about Orioles farm players either, much less lacrosse news.
Perhaps I'll just cancel until we get a little closer to football pre-season.

It started out pretty good but now the texts are few and far between.
I remember getting a few everyday when it first started but now I might get one every other day at most.
I doubt I will cancel it,don't see what the big deal about hearing a "beep" on my phone every once in a while, and if I am out working or something and some news comes in maybe I will get it.

Not quite, Mojo. If you give someone your phone number its not spam. You invited them into your world. In fact you agreed to pay money for the text.
If you enjoyed it at one point great. If the service started to suck after a while you simply Unsubscribe to it and kick yourself for allowing yourself to sign up to a shitty service that you thought was a top shelf service.
Again not spam.
Youre obviously new to this town cause I would never add that POS stations texting service on my phone. Its been amateur hour at NST from day one.

Not new to town at all...been here over 20 years.
I signed up for something -- a promise for breaking news and no spamming. I got that initially. Now I get spam but I suppose technically speaking since I fell for the trap, the false promise, and did sign up freely that it isn't by definition "spam."
But why split hairs?
As for NST being bad from day 1, I would have to disagree. They were once a good station. Now with the exception of Bob Haynie they are unbearable, unlistenable. And unfortunately we all lose.

Ill have to disagree, there alot of things I dont like about wnst but the text service has been exactly what they have promoted. Ive gottent he Ravens schedule just a few mins before i could find it online...and before the NFLN schedule show...i get some "breaking news" thats old, but if I had heard about it, i would have wanted to know about it....ie Manny being suspended.
And yes if you love the ravens and hate the orioles then yet its annoying, just text STOP to 68255 (saved the original message)
Bringing guys up and down and the DL is part of baseball...and with all these young guys alot of thats going to happen...at least you dont get a text of every play or at bat, or even the score of the game...just "important" info about your team. I for one like it and think its fairly non-intrusive.
P.S. of course they want to promote themselves, its always about $$, i think some peope just want to bash to bash. If you want to bash WNST bash them for bashing the orioles day in and day out..ok we get....we know...but there is change happening...first time i think i see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel...

Have to agree with ravensfan1996. The service is exactly what they advertise. It doesn't just say "Ravens and Orioles" text service. It's local sports. Sometimes that does include the Towson Tigers or Bowie Baysox, or whoever. Personally, I think it's a unique service that isn't offered by anyone else around here. I'm also a huge O's fan, so maybe that's why I like it more than most here. If you don't have unlimited texting, I'd probably opt out. But again, one service cannot be perfect for everyone. It works for some, not so much for others. No reason to bash NST for this, but there are plenty of others.

I have never subscribed but my guess is you have to give Nasty a blowjob to unsubscribe.

The issue here is quality of content.
Across the board, the content generated by WNST has deteriorated.
The on air personalities aren't what they used to be. We can all agree to that, right? They are literally pulling people off the streets now, looking for on-air talent.
The hours of on-air programming has dwindled. Yesterday I tried tuning in while cutting my grass and immediately heard a commercial for an April 25th draft party. Wow, I thought, I think it's time to pull that commercial. Then the show came back on and I realized the entire show was a taped re-run from April. The weekend programming is pretty much gone.
Sounds like the texts have gone down in quality and have become mostly self-serving ads for the website.
Ah, the website. Seriously, does anyone read the blogs? The site is such a mess, I haven't really made the effort to navigate it much, but when I do, the content is lame. There are more interesting opinions on message boards like this one, and better video on my 13-year-old daughter's cell phone.
It's about content.
Unable to afford the staff to go out to the venues and lockerrooms to dig for information, I get it, WNST can't generate valuable news. Unless it's simply news no one else bothers to distribute, like where and when the UMBC women's basketball game will be this weekend. If you're a hard core local sports fanatic, then it's great that WNST is your source for this kind of text update.
Part of the issue is that WNST has always been a fringe station with limited resources. But a station I actually have rooted for to succeed. For years I appreciated what they broadcast and was sorry to see it disappear for awhile.
But when radio was strong, it was still just a fringe player putting up a valiant effort to generate a signal and give a platform to their on-air talent. Now that radio is on the ropes, WNST really seems to have taken it on the chin. It's sad. Or, it would be sad if not for the fact Nestor rubbed a lot of people the wrong way for years with his Draconian style. That's one hardship of their own making.
Add it up. They were a small station plugging along it with a niche audience. Then the pie shrunk--revenue dried up for all local radio, in part because of online competition. In part because of a down economy and slashed ad budgets in general. With the radio industry in a tailspin, more stations turned to sports programming, adding even more competition for that shrinking pie. Then the Orioles started playing hardball with the access they are willing to give stations that don't cut deals with them.
All this seems to have taken a bite-out and forced WNST has to cut back its talent investment.
Without the revenue, the quality of the content deteriorates. At that point, it doesn't matter if it goes out on AM radio, emails, text updates, or the website. It's going to fall short. And when it's marginally valuable content delivered on a woefully designed website, it falls waaay short.
As has been stated, the on-air broadcasts and the texts used to be better. There is demand for good sports news in the market. The problem isn't the idea of sports talk radio, or text updates of sports transactions, or web blogsites. The problem is the quality of the content their vehicles are delivering.
