Can't get excited about Kelley Washington. He's gonna be the 4th receiver at best, a spot I'd rather see Marcus Smith in (if he's ever gonna develop). Oh well, Ozzie has a plan, we'll see how it works out.

Kelly Washington is a monster on special teams. IMO you're only going to see him get significant playing time at WR if one of our top 3 WR's get hurt.

Or maybe we can put some 4-wide formations on the field from time to time that scare someone.
I for one hope that what we see is a contribution from our coaching that makes Washington better. In the NFL a big difference between good and bad teams is their coaching. In any sport, good coaching elevates a player's game. That's especially true in pro football, where coaching can not only influence the player's execution but they can design better schemes and game plans.
I like our coaching staff right now. I think they are clearly in the top half of the league just based on what we have seen in the first year, and they could be a top 10. If that is true, logic says most players we get will perform better here than they have throughout the league.
We have the potential to develop his skills (and the other WRs), plus I believe our coaching staff will be thinking of ways to use Washington to make the offense better. Even though he was at NE, I can't see the coaching staff there spending much time worrying about Washington's contribution when you have Brady, Moss, and the rest of that high powered offense. Here it's different.
That's what good coaches do, they don't play rotisserie and just play the guys the GM gets them (which is how we fans judge the team ;) ). Let's see what they can do with the guy. Didn't one of the coaches already say he expects Washington's game to elevate here once he started working with Jim Hostler?

I can't ever remember seeing so much emphasis on ST.
Usually the best players are gotten, then the final cuts are a dog fight coming down to the one better on ST being kept.
This year I get the feeling it is shaping up as the best ST with the final cuts coming down to who is better at their position.

That almost makes too much sense. This coaching staff seems to look at special teams as starting spots, and by the end of last year the Ravens were very good at all phases (once they took Figurs off returns).

My reason for getting excited is that outside of our big 3 and Marcus Smith, our WR depth is nothing. Washington will at worst provide us with a decent vet to contribute.
BTW, noticed on BR.com, officially his number right now is 2...2!!!! I've never seen an NFL receiver wear below 11, but the BR.com graphics are made up with the #2, wonder if that'll stick beyond camp...
