Seriously? This is putting Phil Savage's idolatry to shame now. Get your own players, dude.

The thing about it. Jimmy and Douglas were all Rex guys who he gave chances. Rex wanted Jimmy out of college and Douglas was someone who Rex has always been high on.

Douglas was under contract with us and Ozzie cut him. What is a player to do but go find another job with another team. This isn't quite like stealing a free agent because they outbid you. If the Ravens really wanted Douglas, they should have kept him, but instead resigned Dwan Edwards.

I agree wholeheartedly. The Browns have, in the past, tried to be Ravens West and now we have this new chapter up North. I have nothing personal against Rex, but I hope Ravens North turns out about as well as the West variety has.

"Ravens North" doesn't have a QB yet........so they might be great on D their O will take a big step back, unless they get a grizzled Vet soon.

I'm can't wait to see the Brownies and Jets start canibalizing each other....
Funny that the coaches and players can't seem to "bottle" that Raven Mojo when they depart Baltimore!

Parcells always does it and so does every coach that takes over a new team and has some say in personel. I think it should help at first to teach the system and style of the coach, but in the long run the teams may have been better off with fresh players than over paying free agents they know.

The difference is, I imagine Rex will after a season or two start to move his team in his own direction. It's actually pretty smart. You cant begrudge Rex for trying to be successful with the formula that got him where he is.

LOL, they are FREE AGENTS. What part of free don't you understand? They are no longer under contract.

It's not over yet either. I read they still want Corey Ivy.

Rex getting solid players who he knows are workers not locker room cancers makes sense. He also gets "assistants" to help teach his system to the new team.
I don't see this as Savage-esque at all. Phill was tapped into our scouting pipeline and development. Rex is feeding on players that have priced themselves out of our structure and a surplus cut (Douglas).
We can have fun with it, and make jokes about it as Ravens North, but Rex hasn't really hurt us yet. None of the players he has gotten were expected to be here in 2009, and those we didn't tender looking to resign at a lower cost, he left alone.
I wish him well. He is probably the best D coordinator we've had here.

Rex is doing the smart thing and signing the players we can't afford to keep. I can't fault him for that, he knows these guys well and know exactly what they will bring to the table. he hasn't signed everyone of our free agents, they didn't go after brown, ray, cmac, and he eventually passed over stover.
on a somewhat related note, i am somewhat suprised kokinis hasn't put a big wooing on our free agents. I guess the big ones from this year don't fit their plans.

Don't be mad at Rex for being smart and going after players HE coached here and these players are FREE agents or were released by the Ravens.
1.Marvin Lewis still has a picture of Ray Lewis on his desk in Cincy
2.Look at Duane Starks,Jamie Sharper ( had 2 good years personally),Kim Herring,Ed Hartwell,Sam Adams,A.D. , Corey Harris,Jack Del Rio,Marvin Lewis,Mike Nolan,Mike Singeltary, etc.... The system in Baltimore fits them and helped them because #52 Ray Lewis has been the common factor over the past 13 years and here are some examples
1.A.D. a 6th round draft pick turned into a pro bowler
2.Bart Scott a undrafted free agent turned into a pro bowler who really had only 1 great year 06
3. Sam Adams was never the same after left
4. Ed Hartwell is a joke
5.Jamie Sharper led the league in tackles but the the Texans were horrible!!!
Ray Lewis made ALL of them better and brought the best out in them and Rex Ryan build his system around him and made average players like Leonard look great!!! No disrespect to any of these people but Ray Ray made them!!!!

It's all about the next man up. Scott is the only player that I would consider a loss, but we have some young hungry linebackers that are dying for playing time.

Fat Rex will fail. Sorry, Bart Scott is a good player, but not a guy you have become the centerpiece of your defense.

Imitation is the sincerest form of fattery, err, I mean flattery.
Good luck with that under the glare of the N.Y. spotlight, Rex.
