Per Adam Schefter...
How do you guys think this impacts our offseason plans? Should we use the Suggs money on TJ? Would Ray be willing to take a little less if it meant we used that money on TJ?
It's a tough call IMO. I think TJ would be great for Flacco. He gets open and catches everything, and has a huge desire to win. Plus he hates the Stealers as much as we do, that's gotta count for something :D

I would not lose Suggs for TJ - Defense still wins championships; however, if we can sign him, by ALL means do so. Would definitely upgrade this team, no doubt!

I like Housh and all, but isn't signing him basically adding a 3rd good possession receiver to the offense? Housh and Mason are very comparable, and he's only 3 years younger than Mason. For the money that he is likely going to get, we should be looking for a more prototypical deep threat.
Again, not saying that I wouldn't love to have him, but for me he just doesn't seem like the type of receiver we should be looking at.

True, but who else realistically will be out there? Justin McCarens? Michael Clayton?
We'd have to go into the draft again and hope we get a true playmaker this time around.

If the price was right, I'd take Housh. Who cares if he's another possession WR? Having another player on the field with Mason's ability (Housh is more of a red zone threat b/c of his size) is fine by me. I'd like the Ravens to get a deep threat, but if one isn't available in free agency, adding another Mason isn't so bad.
I'd like the Ravens to pick up Housh and then draft Heyward-Bey, who could be an excellent deep threat for the Ravens.
I do think it'll be difficult for the Ravens to bring in Housh and keep Suggs and Ray Lewis.

Of course. Adding a player like Housh would be great for any team. He's a hell of a player and I wouldn't complain if the price was right. But with the youth of Flacco, Rice, McClain and the O-line, drafting a big time WR and using that money to keep Suggs would be a better investment IMO.

The gain of Houshmandzadeh over Clayton would be slight. The loss of Suggs would be huge.

I agree that we don't want to lose Suggs and I wouldn't "trade" him for having Housh on the team, if that's what it comes down to. I would like to have him though. I think he's a noticeably better receiver than Clayton though.
However the Suggs for Anquan boldin trade rumor that was going around was interesting. I'd have to consider it very carefully if I was in Ozzie's shoes but would be very tempted. The question to ask is if Boldin would produce more points than Suggs would prevent. A tough question.......

Suggs is a very big part of this defense. While it would be nice to have a top speed #1 receiver, I don't think I would part with Suggs to get him. After all, even with our injuries and a rookie QB, we are currently 10-5 and will most likely be even better next year, even if we had the exact same personnel. Take out a major cog in that defense, and it may be the difference in enough games to throw us out of contention.

Pass on Ponytail Pimpjuice at a premium price, but put him in place if the price is nice.
Too many teams fans seem interested for the price to be right. I prefer addressing Wr depth in the draft and mid level free agent market.

No. We need some speed out there...we already have 2 guys who can run 5 yard crossing patterns.
I'd rather take a shot at Torry Holt if we are going to go after over 30 WR's as he is probably going to get cut by the Rams next year.

TJ can be a whiney brat, but he has passion for the game and wants to win. He deserves to go to a quality franchise.
If we got him, a shutdown corner and were able somehow to keep Suggs AND Ray, nothing would stop us next year.
Wasn't there a story a while ago about him and Ray discussing him becoming a Raven at the Pro-Bowl???? I'm sure I saw that somewhere.
I live in Cincinnati and if we did end up getting TJ, I'd get his Ravens jersey immediately to really piss off the Hayseeds around here!

I don't get why people want to jetison Suggs. He needs to be re-upped long term. The guy has gone from a simple pass rusher to reading screens for TDs.
TJ is a fine player but not the type the offense needs. Think about the backfield, they have 3 different types of backs. The WRs need either speed or size or both.

The WRs need either speed or size or both.
True, but based on our past history, much more important is hands and separation.
Speed without separation equals incompletions.
Size without hands we have lived through many frustrating incarnations.
Housh is solid but he is not going to be the deep threat that draws double coverage out of the underneath game. I'd only make a strong push for him as a replacement for Mason if he decides to retire.
Outside of that, it is back to the draft, hopefully a little different this time with Cam's eye helping.

I think those Bungles has at least two WRs I am more interested in. Well they are both headcases... Henry is probably too stupid, but 85.. hmm.

He has also been a monster on the run. I don't have the stats but I would bet he leads the team in tackles for loss. He is constantly in the backfield.

For a big time sure fire #1 receiving threat like Boldin or somebody of that ilk I'd consider letting Suggs go, but not for an older possession type (albeit good one).
The trade off from what you gain in offense wouldn't be worth the loss on defense.
Suggs is still young and has alot of football left in him.
Trevor Price isn't getting any younger and losing Suggs would put us in a serious hole in pass rushing ability.
With that being said...
I'd take whosyourmama for the right price because I think he would be a good contributor on offense for us, but not at the cost of Suggs.

And the thing is the kid is just reaching what are generally known to be a player's PRIME years, plus he still hasn't reached his full potential.
I'd take Chad JohnsonOchoCinco in a heartbeat over Houshermama because he wants to win just as badly and has the things we're looking for to get the most out of Flacco's arm-- Speed in abundance, precise route running and the ability to get separation/open against any defender.
The fact that we have Ray Lewis here (#85's father figure) would only gaurantee his focus and obedience...
Think about it...;)

If true, it's bad news (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcnorth/0-1-396/Seven-step-drop.html) for those who would spend for Houshmandzadeh rather than try to keep our three FA linebackers:
Although a lot can change between now and free agency, one league source we recently spoke with currently does not expect Baltimore to join the T.J. Houshmandzadeh sweepstakes this offseason. Keep in mind, the Ravens have a lot of very good free agents in Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Terrell Suggs and Jason Brown, to name a few. We're told Baltimore will aim to take care of its own first, which will take up a significant chuck of its cap space. Also, with the type of money being thrown at receivers lately, the Ravens may be better off looking elsewhere, such as the draft, to add depth at the position next year.

who is the best available WR in the draft ? Late in the 1st round?

Crabtree out of Texas Tech is by far the best, but he'll probably go top 5. I think we'll have a shot at Heyward-Bey late in the first or maybe even with a trade up in the 2nd.

Good point. It's easy to get caught up in bringing in new players but what about keeping the great ones we have? I'd hate to lose Suggs, Lewis, Jason Brown and Scott. It WOULD be fantastic if we could just keep this group together. Then take a shot for more talent in the draft and mid/lower level free agents.
I hear it's not a good year for WR's in the draft but is a good one for DB's. Doesn't mean we can't find a good WR but it may have to be a diamond in the rough type pick in the later rounds.

I also think that Williams should be given a shot in our improved passing game. Funny how Clayton has turned from a scrub into a solid receiver under Cam's system with Flacco tossing the ball. Perhaps Williams can exhibit asimilar improvement.

It IS amazing how much "better" receivers get when they have someone who can get the ball to them. Demetrius Williams showed a lot of promise when healthy.

This is a good point actually. D-Will has the potential to be a downfield receiver. It is a shame we didn't get to see what he could do in a real offense this year.
I'm assuming he'll be back next year and ready to roll.
