It's looking more like maybe the Jets will be that division's winner, which means that the Patriots will be vying for one of the two wild card slots. Since we lose out to the Colts based on head-to-head, and given that the Colts have a relatively 'cake' schedule for the remainder of the season, who do we want to win this week's Patiots-Steelers matchup? I always want the Steelers to lose, so Go Patriots!

Go Patriots...To try to leap frog both the colts and the pats given both of their weak late season schedules is going to be near impossible...Not to mention that both teams are now hitting their stride. Plus, we control our own destiny more if we are fighting it out with the Steelers since we have them at home for a head-to-head match-up. In a strange NFL season, it will be easier to win this division than to earn a wild-card.

Is there even a decision to make? If the favored Patriots win, and we win our next three (the Ravens should be favored in all three games), we will have sole possession of first place with two games to go. Not getting too excited here because there are too many "ifs", but a pats win would result in the Ravens in control of own destiny.

I think a Steelers win would be the best, but I hate them to win, so a tie will do it.

This is a joke thread right?

You NEVER root for Shittsburgh. Ever. Period.

Then you throw in the playoff scenario and it goes from no-brainer to ... well .... I dont know what but it sure is a recockulous notion.

I have zero venom towards the Pats anyway. I hate their coach, but a lot of their players I respect (Minus HGHarrison)

We still have a shot at the #2 slot if we can overtake the stillers, win the division and have the colts/jets lose a couple games. I haven't really sat down and done the math but it is probably as possible now as it was in '06.

At this point i would rather go up 1 more game in the wild card. Since we win the wildcard tiebreaker and are just one back of the squeelers in the division id say its better if the squeelers win this week. Did i say that ? :embarassed: We still have a game against the squeelers and if we can just pick up one game between now and when we play each other that gives us a good shot at the division. Either way i think in order to absolutely get in we need to win 4 of the next five games. 3 out of the next 5 will only give us a 50/50 shot and thats with one of the 3 wins being against the squeelers and a lot of help from other teams. All that being said when i go back and read this post, i still believe the part that says its "better if the squeelers win" but i just cant cheer that way, GOOOOO PATS...:ww:

I'll be rooting for the Patriots, let the cards fall where they may. I don't like the stealers and like their fans even less. This team has its destiny in its own hands.

NEVER, EVER root for the Squeelers until they are mathematically eliminated OR it helps us win the divsion.

Let's keep a proper perspective. The ultimate goal is to go to the Super Bowl and win it. Being a wild-card decreases our chances of this happening. If we win out and the Squeelers win-out (except when they play us), I'm not sure we win the division.

If we play well the rest of the year, it's still very possible to get a #2 seed.

The Squeelers can possibly lose 4 out of their last 5 games. They play @New England, Dallas, @Baltimore, @Tennessee, Cleveland. That is even more brutal than our remaining schedule. If they lose 4 out of 5, they're not even in the playoffs. How sweet would that be?

I agree but this topic has two ways to look at it. As a fan we can never cheer for the squeelers. If you just think stats and win/losses and playoff picture w/o being a fan its better if the Pats win...

RagingRaven,

If the Squeelers were 3 games ahead of us and there was little-to-no chance of winning the division, I MIGHT side with you regarding our improved chances of getting a wild card.

However, the Squeelers are only 1 game ahead of us and the division is still very much in balance. If we win the division, we get at least a #3 seed and a home playoff game. If we play well and finish at least 11-5, we could even get a #2 seed.

It's also possible the Squeelers lose their next 4 games to finish 9-7.

There is NO WAY I would ever root for the Squeelers in this scenario.

Go Pats (at least this week)!

Way to many "If's" in that quote.

As a fan i understand, but using logic i stand by my 1st post.

.If you feel like we are a playoff team, and I do, there is absolutely NO WAY you root for the Steaming pile of crappers. We WILL beat them in our house, and IF the pats can beat them this week, I feel the division is ours for the taking............. imho

Methinks the Steeleroids and their various injury issues may rear their ugly heads during their upcoming stretch of games. :D

One must not forget the tiebreakers.

Assuming we beat the Squealers here in Baltimore, you want/need the Squealers to lose to the Patriots. The tiebreaker would come down to head-to-head competition, so it would be a wash. The next tiebreaker would be divisional record. Again, we would be tied. So the third tiebreaker would be Conference record. Right now, Pitt is 7-1 in the conference, and we're 6-3. We need to have that gap closed as soon as possible if we have any ideas of winning the division. I would hate to lose the division to Pittsburgh on a tiebreaker like that.

So yes, GO PATS!!

I may be wrong, but I believe the third tie breaker would be records against common opponents, then I think it goes to conference record.

Looking at it that way, losing to the Redskins is not an option.

Ultimately I think in order to get in we will need to win the division.
Basically, we need to win the next three.

In other words.....

Fuck the Steelers

Go PATS!!!

Regarding the comment earlier in this thread about the Colts having a relatively cakewalk schedule...

There is nothing relative about it!!!

The Terps could probably walk away with a winning record after playing the remaining Colts schedule.

Colts' remaining schedule: cleve, cinci, det, jax, tn; plus they hold head/head tiebreakers with us AND Stoolers AND Cheatriots. no way they don't get the first wild card.
Stoolers must play @Pats, Dallas, @Ravens, @ Tenn, then Brownies. I think we have a much better chance of catching them and taking the division than keeping up with the Pats (who will probly win 4/5 if not 5/5).
so I'm holding my nose and rooting for the Pats this weekend.

We can still win the division and that should be our goal.

I'm rooting for the Pats.

The thing that bothers me about the Steelers schedule is that the Titans are scheduled so late in the year. They will have the division wrapped up and will have no big incentive to win.

Of course I would much rather see us win the division and get home field advantage in the first playoff game.............

But I'll take whatever we can get. I just hope the chips don't fall in some way that eliminates us from the playoffs. Fingers crossed.
