View Full Version : Sit Down ... I'm trying to watch the game

An elderly lady (not a regular in section 109) was asking the guys in front of her to sit down so she could see the game...my wife joined in (most likely in sympathy support).

My thing up til this game was get your ass up, but this was an old lady and the truth is the dudes standing up were only standing because oh I don know maybe drunk or maybe it was SATAN (in my best church lady voice).

Has this already been hashed and re hashed and I'm just not paying attention?

Eh, it's been re-hashed but not this year.

Stand on third when the defense is out there on third down or if the opponents are trying to run the hurry-up.

Sit and be very quite when the offense is on the field.

You wife was 100% correct.

Simple: stand up to scream it out on all 3 downs on Defense, especially 3rd down, and especially on 3rd and long or 3rd and anything on the Ravens side of thefield. Start screaming (or humming) as soon as the opposing team goes into the huddle, up until they come to the line of scrimmage. At that point, keep screaming (or humming), but SIT THE FUCK DOWN!!!! Don't be a rude asshole who blocks the view of the fan behind you.

Yes, it is possible to be a die-hard 12th man fan while simultaneously displaying a few manners!

I agree. Those are the rules, very simple to follow IMO.

Dude, it's a football game. Not church. Not the second grade. When my defense is out on the field, I'm going to be making noise and I'm probably going to be standing up. Section 143 doesn't seem to have a problem when I do this (not that I remember at least). I'm gonna be yelling and I'm gonna be outta my seat, and if that's what it takes to be loud and help us win the game then so be it. So stand up if you're behind me bc I do the same thing if someone's standing in front of me. Cheap seats may be different, but that's just weak.

I believe i bought the seat im in and the area just in front of it so if i want to stand when the D is out there i should be allowed to do so. That being said if there was a elderly person behind me id sit until the people in front of me stood up. Just the way i was raised. But, while i was raised to do that i do believe if you cant stand when the D is out there then stay home and watch it because standing anytime the D is on the field is part of the game.

I will stay seated on first and second downs out of respect for the people behind me. I am always standing on 3rd down, always.

I still yell as loud as I can from the opposing teams huddle through the snap, and sitting doesn't make me any quieter, so I am happy with that scenerio.

The only problem is after a stop on 3rd down late in the season... man that seat is cold when you sit back down.

Agreed. I'll sit on offense and 1st/2nd downs on defense....unless they are in my end-zone and in that case we usually stand all 4 downs on defense.

I don't see the need to stand just to stand. A guy 2 rows in front of me does it all the time. And since I'm on the end I'll stand in the aisle if possible but luckily for me a season ticket holder is behind me. I try to respect the people behind me and so do the guys in front of me.

You'd think that the folks who can't or don't want to stand on defense would at least have the decency to look at either of the HUMONGOUS screens at either end of the stadium to see what's going on...Sheesh!

But no, seriously, old people are kewl...

Tell that older lady to try and get seats in Sec. 541. They sit for EVERY play.:)

I thought the seats were just for decoration. If they're truly for sitting they must be for when a folk singer plays a concert in the stadium because when you are blessed to go to a Ravens I would hope that you're a fan that actually shows support by standing and yelling. If you can't take people in front of you standing then give your tickets to a real fan and stay home.

I pay a hell of a lot of money for my seats and if I want to stand I will stand and if I want to sit I will sit. This is a football game not baseball. I have no problem with any fan that wants to sit that is their right, but it is also mine to stand and if you don't like it then oh well.

Watch it Marine, I'll get the AARP on your ass..

However, being one of those "old people" who cannot stand as long as I used
too for various reasons, I have no problem with standing cheering fans. I just take my rests when I can and deal with it as I expect such things at a football game. Nobody should be forced to curb their enthusiasm at a game and those that can't or don't want to stand should expect that, and accept it.

I totally understand being physically unable. It's the "spiritually unwilling" that I have a problem with! You are a prime example of why I say senior citizens kick arse!!:ww:

I do the same thing pyite32. I sit down on first and second downs out of respect for the people behind me. The people in front of me shows the same respect as well. We all stand and cheer on 3rd down for the defense in my section.

Don't get me wrong, I am yelling the every down though. The people in front of me probably hate me b/c when I am sitting and leaning forward I am much closer to the back of their heads then when I am standing.... Hmm maybe this is why they sell their tickets to out of town fans so often...

Again we are just fans. We are not part of the team at all and every person has a right to see the game from there seat. Jesus. Its one thing if its a big play but if no one is standing in front of you, then sit the f down.

You may want to just look up at either of the big screens located at the left and right end zones...:D These are the things that separate the fans from the fanatics.

Rav, if the guy is standing in front of you blocking the field the big screens probably aren't much of an option either.

I can make just as much noise sitting as I can standing. So can you. And if you have somebody physically unable to stand behind you then be accomodating.

If the people in front of me stand, I stand and it doesn't bother me. But I sit when they are sitting, and if you think you are louder than me just stop by and put your ear next to this windbag when he lets loose.

No, you're right Greg... I always stand up and make noise on third down, but I definitely don't go out of my way to offend my neighbors.

Plus I don't want to give the SAFE Gestapo any reason to harass me any further than they already do.

Agreed with those who stand on 3rd downs and sit but make noise on 1st and 2nd.

Look, it's real easy to understand how it works. You feel out the environment of your section and act accordingly.

You're not a better fan if you stand for every defensive play. As Greg has pointed out about 1000 times, you can make just as much noise sitting as you can stand and that's the most important thing.

Act like an adult and cheer your ass off.

It's pretty simple.

This debate is always interesting to me. We have the "you can only be a true fan if you stand" people vs. the "you can cheer the team sitting or standing" folks. Then there's the "I paid my money and I can stand if I want" crowd vs. the "I try to have respect for my fellow fans" guys. I find the contrasts fascinating. A lot of it seems to boil down to a debate on what makes a better, or superior fan. Are you a better fan because you stand, or because you own a nicer jersey, or because you know who led he team in 3rd down tackles for loss of yardage in 1997, or because you post more on a message board? I think everyone here is a fan in one fashion or another, or they wouldn't be here. However they choose to support the Ravens varies and doesn't mean that one is better than the other.

For the record, my seats are in 550, I scream as load as I can on every defensive down, and I stand when I can't see.

Im a "stander" but if the seats behind ever went to a little kid or someone who couldnt stand, Id take that into consideration (ie id only stand on 3rd down 4th, big plays etc). Luckily the seats behind me have never gone to either of those 2 kinds of people. Last game there was 2 eagles fans behind us, so we would sit, then right when the ball was hiked wed stand so they missed the play.... haha

I had to move my seats this year because of the "entitled to do what ever the hell we want folks" were making my father miserable. I had it worked out with the guys in front of me to stand to the side and for the most part it worked ok, the problem was after they left the idiot beside them thought it was their right to pace all 5 seats, put his hand down his girlfriends pants and she down his, play tonsil hockey, grope the girlfriend's boobs all while standing to "watch" the football game. Not sure how doing all that helps them cheer louder. I love being at the rail I can see EVERYTHING!

Hey if you really have a problem with an out of control fan, they have a new policy now where you can Text the ravens and get some one over to you:

GuestAssist is the text messaging service available to guests at M&T Bank Stadium. Any Guest may call for assistance during events by sending a text message from their cell phone. By using the GuestAssist system, you will be able to report issues and concerns, and call for assistance in a fast, easy and convenient way. Here's how it works:

-Open a blank text message and address the message to 78247.
-Type the word RAVENS followed by a space and the issue and location.
-Text messages can be up to 160 characters in length
-A subject for the text message is not required.
-When your text message is received, you receive an immediate response message stating, "Your message has been received by stadium personnel."
-If more information is needed, the GuestAssist operator will respond with additional questions.

And by the way if a fan complains about you standing, SAFE can make you sit, and if you dont....bye bye.

I think the problems happen when one or 2 guys are standing and thats it...if you look around and you are the only one standing..sit down...if everyone is up.....not much you can do or say...its a football game.

Danny was with me too:thumbdown: Dude is an ass. I'll text you next time it happens.

The guys that sit in front of us actually checked that it was not their fault we moved--they are nice guys.

I am a proud member of the stand up for every defensive third down and if the opposing offensive has a big drive such as one at the end of a half then I am up for every play. I also enjoy encouraging everyone around me to get up. But in 503 the fans are usually up before the play anyway. Lotta die hards in 503.

Luckily I am pretty far back in the upper deck because I like to stand the entire time on defense and even sometimes on offense (being quiet of course). I am too antsy and excited at the game to sit down. If I wanted to sit down the entire game and not scream until I have no voice, I would save my money and stay home.

I have to watch all the games at home and I'm always tired and horse afterwards. Well, maybe not horse anymore since Breean likes to snuggle on daddy during the game but I was making screaming faces during Reed's return.
