Final game of the preseason - lets see what the boy from Delaware has up his sleeve tonight. As always, GO RAVENS!!

Agreed, lets see what the Blue Hen does for the Ravens!!!

Figurs takes it to the 19, and here comes Flacco.

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:07 PM
Heap is playing.....huh!?!

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:08 PM
Interested in seeing how Gaither does....

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:08 PM
1st, Rice gets 2. I didn't know Heap was playing. Good to see Gaither back too.
2nd and 8, D-Will comes in and everyone is coming back home, complete on the checkdown to Rice, gain of 3.
3rd and 5, Flacco is in trouble, just chucks it up and Clayton makes a brilliant grab at the sideline for a first. That was so bizarre, but it worked.

HoustonRaven
08-28-2008, 07:09 PM
Heap and Gaither?

Better not let the doom sayers see that .... that blows their "sky falling"theory out of the water.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:10 PM
1st from the 35, quick slant batted down. Flacco needs to work on looking off defenders.
2nd, checkdown to Rice, gets about a yard.
3rd and 9, shotgun, zing out right to Clayton, 1 yard short of the sticks, makes his man miss and gets an extra 3 and a first. Good hookup.

RavenScallywag
08-28-2008, 07:10 PM
i gotta think that Flacco is more likely to be the starter next week. Troy Smith has only player 3/4 of a game this preseason total, and unless he's showing he can do it in practices, he needs at least a week or two to get back to full strength.

And if we bring a QB in, he'll need time to learn the playbook.

So Flacco, LIGHT IT UP tonight, and make us get some hope for the season!

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:12 PM
Line held up for him.....

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:12 PM
1st from the 48, PA, Flacco is swamped, and he just kinda throws it down for McClain. Barely a forward pass.
2nd and 10, McClain gets the carry, goes for about 5, crossing midfield.
3rd and 5, Flacco gets great protection, looks forever, goes deep for a double covered D-Will, incomplete. Funny, he stared down his WR first, then on this play he looked off option 1 too quickly. He'll learn.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:15 PM
1st from the 20 for the Falcons, give to Turner, great penetration, no gain.
2nd and 10, draw to Turner, big hole opens up, gets 12 and a first.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:18 PM
1st, Ryan overthrows his FB. Pressured heavily.
2nd, PA, fooled Greisen badly, but the pass intended for the TE broken up solidly by Johnson.
3rd, Ryan throws, short of his man, blitz was coming. Flag down. Illegal formation.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:18 PM
Fair catch at the 27.

08-28-2008, 07:19 PM
Figurs looked shaken up after that first kickoff return and now Leanhard is returning that punt, I don't like the looks of that.......

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:22 PM
1st, give to Rice who goes left for 3.
2nd and 7, goes underneath to the 35. Gain of 5.
3rd and 2, no huddle, give to McClain the upback, gets exactly 2. Measurement time. Inches.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:23 PM
Harbaugh pusses out. Punt team on.

JonG316
08-28-2008, 07:25 PM
I'm not totally upset by how things have gone so far, I mean, Flacco hasn't made any major errors and the Oline is looking pretty damn good so far. Flacco at least has a pocket to work in now.

The first completion to Clayton was a major error that was avoided.

Not unexpected from a rookie but it was a horrid pass.

You can just look at Flacco and see that he's calm and poised.

1st, Turner runs right into Haloti for no gain.
2nd and 10, Turner gets 10 going left. Flag down - holding on Atlanta.
2nd and 20, blitz comes, Ryan dumps to the TE, gets 16.
3rd and 4, pass deflected off of Bannan's helmet, and goes incomplete.

JonG316
08-28-2008, 07:30 PM
"calm and poised"

Lets play the opposite words game.

Black - White
Up - Down
Calm and poised - Kyle Boller

Man, Flacco has a cannon boy.....

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:32 PM
1st from the 28, Rice makes 2 great moves and gets 5 yards. Nice stiff arm too.
2nd and 5, PA, overthrown for Wilcox by a lot, but it looks like he'll get PI or holding, contact. Holding indeed.

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:32 PM
Brooking w/pass interference...don't know if it was catchable though...

08-28-2008, 07:33 PM
Rice is a shifty little dude!

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:34 PM
1st from the 38, give to Rice who bangs off defenders for 2-3.
2nd and 7, goes right, gain of about 2 more.
3rd and 5, Flacco's pass dropped by Clayton. Well, not a drop, he only got one hand on it.

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:38 PM
Why isn't Washington playing?

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:39 PM
1st from the 20 for the Falcons, complete to White who is nailed by Ivy, gain of about 7.
2nd and 3, Norwood forward for 1.
3rd and 2, pitch for Norwood dropped, ruled incomplete. Punt time again.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:39 PM
Leonhard to the 31.

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:41 PM
Missed a play but Flacco just completed to strike to D-Will to the Falcons 35. Nice!

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:44 PM
He's got a cannon....dare I say he looks better than Boller already?

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:44 PM
1st, Ray Rice BREAKS out, inside the 15! What speed on that kid!

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:44 PM
Good run by Rice....hopefully we'll see lots of that this year!

4G63
08-28-2008, 07:46 PM
DWill with the stretch....

Sephy
08-28-2008, 07:46 PM
1st from the 12, give to Rice who will lose a yard. Nothing there.
2nd and 11, complete to Neal, down to the 7. He stopped - shoulda moved forward.
3rd and 4, lob to the back of the endzone, and just too far for D-Will. Those dumb fades again. Good solid throw for a fade, but meh, I hate the playcall.

3-0, courtesy Money.

Not dropping my SPOTS card yet but the looks of it may be that I need to change it to start Flacco. I never thought I would be saying this, esp. after the 1st pre-season game.

Was holding on that return.
1st from the 12, false start.
1st and 15, Norwood downed at the 5 by Parker.
2nd and very long, complete to Norwood and gains maybe 1.
3rd and long, Shock overthrows White, incomplete. Walker was beat, too.

Fair catch at the Falcons 41 - LOL.

1st, give to Ross, who gets nailed after 2 or 3.
2nd and 7, Ross through the middle to the 5, but there is a flag for illegal formation.
2nd and 12, pass intended for Wilcox is batted up and picked off.
Sigh.

I can't watch the game, how has Bramlet played thus far?

What about the o-line? Who is playing at RT tonight? I know Gaither is playing LT tonight so I am assuming Terry is back in at RT since his injury was less severe than Gaither supposedly.

How about the secondary? How many times has Frank Walker been burned so far?

So I missed all of Flacco due to late work, but catching up on this thread, it seems like it was more of last week's play? Sound liek he is our starter by default, while probably also being the best for the job?

Bramlet is better then I thought, but nothign more hten an insurance policy I would imagine.

Yeah I'd like to know what principle too, I missed the early part of this game, but even from what I've seen from Bramlet would maybe offer he start over Troy, who IMO has looked neck and neck with Bramlet as the worst in purple this preseason.

That we don't want to pull another Boller and have the kids psyche destroyed early......but I will say he looks more poised than I've ever seen Boller. Basically, you don't want to start your rookie QB unless you HAVE to....;)

purple bird
08-28-2008, 08:36 PM
NFL qb history for the most part has suggested that letting qb's sit and wait usually produces a better "return on the investment", but from what I am reading it seems like Flacco has been continually improving.

I had to admit it but Ben R (I don't want to mention his full name because of the team he is on) is a good example as an exception to the rule as he came in during his first season due to qb injuries, quite possibly like Mr. Flacco next week. Of course, Mr. R had a much stronger supporting cast than Mr. Flacco could next week.

Raveninwoodlawn
08-28-2008, 08:50 PM
Pretty sure Flacco will be starting Sept 7th...by default.

Sucks for Troy personally, but this sickness he has been dealing with likely has cost him any shot of ever starting here without an injury.

Once Flacco is starting, he is not coming out.

RavenScallywag
08-28-2008, 09:05 PM
I think Flacco starts next week, but unless he lights it up, Harbs wants him on the bench. Basically, we want him to learn and not take a beating until he's ready. Troy will probably see action in the game and start week 2.

08-28-2008, 09:06 PM
Bramlet to Willis...nice pass!!

RavenScallywag
08-28-2008, 09:09 PM
The Harper play looked good too, but I think the Ravens got a gift there. Ball went through Harper's hands, he SHOULD have caught that.

If Marcus Smith recuperates in time, we might not see Harper making this team as a 6th WR. Willis on the other hand might have a shot.

donnaj
08-28-2008, 09:18 PM
I understand the thought in waiting to start a rookie until he is comfortable with the game so that he doesn't get discouraged and beaten up mentally and physically...HOWEVER..should injuries actually bring Flacco into the starting role earlier than expected and he shows the type of growth within the first two weeks of the regular season that he has shown in the past week, don't you think it would actually do worse for his confidence to then remove him as the starter and tell him that he goes back to the bench because Troy, who has not shown the success in the pre-season that Flacco has, is back from tonscilitis. I think the worst thing you could do after giving a guy the starting job is to take it away from him and give it to someone less talented.

RavenScallywag
08-28-2008, 09:19 PM
it just occurred to me...How far has Joey Harrington fallen when he's BEHIND DJ Shockley on the depth chart?

RavenScallywag

What happened?

Just a ton of dropped passes for Harper...I watched two series and saw at least 2-3 dropped passes by Harper alone. One through his hands, but there was a penalty, another was just coughed up when he got tackled. He needed to show he could make some catches, hasn't made one yet.

And now, throw to Harper was picked, though that wasn't his fault.

Did it look like a bad drop or something that was caused by the tackle?

Willis looked better than Harper did, he would make it first.

Harper would be the 6th if Smith goes on PUP/IR, but they were all catches that needed to be made. The one through his hands was questionable, since the foul was hands to the face, but I think that was before the pass was thrown, so he should've been able to make the catch. The other drop I saw in particular was one you have to hold onto, it wasn't a hard hit, the receiver was just in close coverage and hit him when he made the catch.

Regardless, it's telling that he only caught one pass in 4 preseason games. Matt Willis had 4 for 28 before today, and 1 for 32 yards today.

Also, to add on Bramlet, he was signed THIS AFTERNOON. Yeah, so he had maybe 3-4 hours to skim a playbook. Well played, I hope he gets a shot to stick here, though if Boller is done, we want someone who can potentially start

What I heard from the game commentators was that he signed in the afternoon yesterday, though they said he caught a red-eye flight from San Diego to Baltimore, so that would put him here morning or noon time.

In any case, going on little sleep, not a lot of time to digest the playbook, didn't look half bad. I fully expected us to be running Cam out on every huddle to draw up what play they wanted to run so Bramlet knew what to do, but he looked like he actually grasped the offense okay. Is it enough for him to stick around? Only if Boller can play again sometime this year. But the guy deserves mad props for looking halfway decent in that kind of circumstances.
