Just got announced on ESPN that Farve will retire after 17 seasons.

According to Mortensen, Farve made his decision based on Moss getting resigned back to the Pats.

He is a class act up to this point and I hope this doesnt become a "Im Taking My Ball and Going Home" scenario because of Moss.

I hardly believe that his retirement, whether its based on Moss coming or going, will ever affect his legacy.

Brett Farve is a class act and one of the greatest QBs in history. He led me to my first FF championship last year. I'm sure broadcasting offers will pour in but I'd like to see him as a coach.

Mort's an idiot. What's he been right on?

ESPN has gotten so horrible recently. The other day they were saying Culpepper and Moss were talking and wanted to sign somewhere together so they could finish what they started in Minnesota. As if...

Tabloid sports reporting.

About fifteen minutes after Mort made that report on ESPN2 that Favre's decision was heavily influenced by the Pack's failure to sign Moss, Favre called Mort and basically told him that wasn't true. I tend to believe Favre's version. He basically said he was worn out.

I was very surprised to hear this news, though. He had a great year last year. I figured he'd be back.

At least he's leaving on a high note after the season he had, in spite of that game against the Giants in the conference championship.

I am suprised that he's leaving with GreenBay being as close to a Superbowl contender as you can get!I guess I can be a 1 team man now I have been a fan of GB since the Colts left.

You're right about Favre being worn out. That's how the AP is reporting it:

Mort's a dumbass. Moss had nothing to do with Favre's decision. Favre said himself that he could can still play but is mentally drained. He leaves on a high note. I've always had mad respect for Favre and loved watching him play. 1st ballot HoF without any doubt.

Dont shoot the messenger .... just posting what I heard.

Mort has been a joke this season, no doubt there.

To me, its kinda disturbing that the quality of Mort's reporting/accuracy has declined. I liked his reporting a few years ago, but it has declined markedly-especially since reading some of the things you guys have highlighted. Perhaps that is the way all across ESPN?

I don't watch it that much anymore, except for Sunday Countdown during the season.

Ever since they took Chris Bermans Sunday night off, I only turn ESPN on for MNF and no pregame. I am really sorry to see Favre go.
