Just heard that Big Ben signed a 100+ million contract to stay with the Steelers, and he's talking about getting more rings. I don't think it is ever too early to start talking about repeating that 58-7 drubbing we handed down to the boys in yellow and black two years ago, not to mention our only divisional win last year coming against the Stillers. With our new staff in place, a staff that I have a lot of confidence in, I believe the Ravens will make a strong comeback this year, and Big Ben better start worrying about beating our boys in Purple and Black, before he starts counting his Super Bowl rings. Bring on the Stillers!

Festivus, it is crazy money but he gets his team to superbowl and the playoffs. plus he also chucked 32 tds last season. Cant say its a bad move, considering what he has accomplished so far.

I don't know Crazy. That's NFL elite money right there. You're probably right, my purple color glasses may be giving him less credit than he deserves.

Talk about screwing up the market!!! More than Peyton, Brady, and all the qb's? The sensibly run franchise?
Don't get me wrong Ben is a good QB. And has won the SB for them, he's clearly their franchise QB but there is no way in hell he should be getting paid more than Peyton and Brady. He is nowhere near their elite status.

Let them pay him that money.
That's the first real cap screw up the Rooneys have made a LONG time. Im glad to see the contract go for that much. Just means they will be in cap jail in no time flat! :)

Definitely purple color shades...
In his first four years in the NFL, he's posted a 92.5 QB rating with only one year under a 95 rating, tossing 84 TDs to 54 INTs. In those four years his team has gone 44-20, winning the division twice and winning the Superbowl once.
If he was QBing the Ravens, we'd all be thrilled he just signed that deal. And regarding getting more than Manning or Brady, you have to cap adjust these things. Neither Manning nor Brady signed deals with the cap anywhere near this big...the cap was about 70% of what it is today when they both signed.
This is a solid deal for them.

I agree, except the part where you wrote that he "has won the SB for them." He absolutely sucked in that game -- he didn't win it for them, he just happened to be there.
Whether or not you think he's worth it, the surprising aspect of this is that the Steelers actually decided to lay out that kind of big money. That's not been their style over the years.

I respectfully disagree. He had one of the lowest, if not the lowest, rating for a SB QB. I don't think his performance contributed to their SB "win" at all.

Ben is no dilfer. Dilfer struggled with TB before getting here and been nothing more than a backup since he left Baltimore.
either way you want to dice it the steelers won the damn thing whether you want to give credit to him or not, that's up to you. Fact is he is a major part of their offense and has been the key to their success since he has arrived in Pitt.

Big Ben Super Bowl Stats ....
9 of 21 (42.8%) for 123 yards passing and 2 pickles. QB rating for the game was the lowest in SB history at 22.6. No TD except his 1 yrd sneak.
Safe to say they won in spite of his effort, not because of it.

O-Kay Don't give him credit. Point I made is he got them to the Superbowl and the playoffs.
But yea Go on and deny his worth to this team with your purple colored glasses. You're a ravens fan and allowed to act ignorant when it comes to divisional matters ;)

Way to much for a QB that's injury prone. But hey, it's their money. Ben will maybe miss two games this season.
Wow got my purple blood pumping thinking how we will beat on them again.
Big money means he will be running for his life this season. Better pay the hospital bills ben, Cause the purple and black will break your back.
O did that feel good!!:rocking:

You don't get to say "No TDs, except"...he either had some or he didn't, and he did.
He's also probably the youngest QB to win the Superbowl, and his team didn't win it "in spite of" him. He wasn't exactly running amock out there and giving the game away to Sea. He managed what he had to, and besides the worst reffing in the history of the game, the Steelers handled the Hawks that game. It wasn't like the Steelers just managed to squeak out a victory after Ben turned the ball over several times or something like that. There's a giant difference between a QB not winning the game for his team, and a team winning in spite of their QB.
He's in his fourth year. His rookie season his QB rating was over 95 and he didn't lose a game till the second playoff round, to the eventual Superbowl Champs. He's had one bad year, the year after he almost got killed in the summer. Last year he was the third best QB in the NFL. He's taking on a bigger role in the offense now that they don't have the great running game to lean on (though it's still good).
You guys are seriously talking some biased stuff here. There are two QBs that are markedly better than Roethlisberger currently in this league. There are three others (Romo, Palmer, and Brees) that are in the discussion. $12.75 mil a year when the cap is $116MM - and toward the end of his deal it will likely be over $150MM - is certainly a reasonable deal and will in no way be the cause of that team going into cap hell.
Bash the deal all you want, it's a good one for the Steelers.

Dont lump me in with a group.
Rushing TD's for QB's dont appear in their stat line in the paper, thats why I didnt include it in the pasing stats. Can you nit-pick more?
I was simply giving his stats as back-up to the arguement they won the SB game in spite of him. I never once said it was a bad deal or not. I could care less what Shittsburgh does.

It's not going to screw their cap at all because of the length of the deal and the fact that he will renegotiate in about 5 to decrease any impeding cap number

He might of had a bad Super Bowl but he went on the road and played well in 3 consecutive games to get them to the Super Bowl.
Folks, when a guy like Tony Romo gets 30 million guaranteed, a guy like Ben is gonna get more.
The overall cap # for team's is getting higher and many teams have tons of room to make moves like these for top notch players.
I hate Ben but he's a damn good QB.
And if you look at what other players (both QBs and other positions) are getting, this will start to be the norm with big boys.

It's a lot of money that's for sure but I don't see where it is relevant to compare what Manning or Brady got a couple years ago to what anyone gets today. Contract value's are constantly escalating that's why these guys want to redo their deals every five minutes. The record deal they signed last yer is not nearly such a hot deal this year.

Regardless, you said he didn't have any TDs except and that's not a fair assessment to make. I also made the argument pretty clearly that they did NOT win the Superbowl in spite of him.
Keep in mind this was also the year where they were the #6 seed, and bumped off an Indi team that was a monster fav to win the Superbowl. By monster fav, I mean they were almost even money to win at the start of the playoffs...the only team I've ever seen as a bigger fav in my lifetime was NE this past year.

I made a statement about ONE GAME, not his entire season. And what argument did you make? Both of his INT's were almost game killers and if it wasnt for Bettis, his one rushing TD would not have happened.
Yes, he's a great QB and had a great year that year. But to say he helped them win the big game just isnt accurate.

Hey, that sb was given to the stillerz, he played poorly, and played poorly the entire next year. Is he better than what we've got? Hell, yes. Would I LOVE to have a qb as good as he? Hell, yes. But making more money than the 2 best in the game? Hell, no! I know Peyton's deal was made a few years ago, and the cap has increased. But is Slothlisburger on the same level as Peyton(even tho I hate his aw shucks guts)? I think NOT!!!!!!!!! They must be paying him for his popularity... which IS great... AND he is a jersey selling machine. I HATE THE STEELERS!! They Lived off their steeleroid area superbowl wins for 30 years! The mystique, the aura, the hallowed steel curtain! I hate them and every thing they do! So don't go trying to bring up reality and logic in any discussion about that disgusting franchise! Whattaya tryin' to do? create compassion for them?:ralph: :187734: :girlfight

You were the one shining bens superbowl stats all over the place but all the while we were both talking about the overall picture. Get a clue.

I have balls, strangely enough, being of the masculine persuasion, quoted anyway.
On the point of this contract, much as most Ravens fans wouldn't want to admit it Pig Hen is an elite level quarterback, he's not up to Brady or P Money's standard but he is a top 5 quarterback, possibly the next best guy after those two and he deserved to get paid. He's shown he's recovered from his injuries after bike accident and appendectomy so I think they were right to sign him up before it got into a position where the Steelers might get gun shy with big money as is their usual thing.
These big numbers are the maximum possible with masses of thoroughly unattainable incentives but the agent will always ensure this gets reported to reflect well on him and attract more players. In reality the contract won't be this big and I suspect it'll probably be around market value between the likes of Manning/Brady and Romo's contract that he got earlier this year. When you've got a guy the calibre of Big Hen, you damned well pay to keep hold of it. This is a smart and expected move for me.

See, you're getting pissed at me for not reading your posts, but you're the one not reading mine. Show me where I said he helped them win the game?
Once again, my point is that there is a giant difference between a QB doing nothing to help his team win a game, and a team that wins a game in spite of their QB. Ben's SB falls more into the former than the latter category.
