Talk about stepping up when the pressure is on. The Terps are up 13 on Clemson with 5:35 in the 2nd half. I'm not usually a big fan of college Bball, but I pay attention to MD around the NCAA tournament time, and after really dumb losses to Miami and VT, we're rebounding against Wake Forest and Clemson.

Not so fast. This damn team can not play with a lead. They are pathetic. Now down to 2 with 1:50 left

yeah, me and my big mouth... :grbac:
Up 4 with 1:05 remaining, foul shot coming up.

OMG, that was the dumbest thing I've seen...he had a guy open behind him, made a lackluster pass forward, which got absolutely SMACKED by the Clemson player who took it for a slam.
Even if they win this game, they sure DON'T deserve to go to the NCAA tournament.

Damn, can I retract this thread? I knew there was a reason I didn't watch MD Basketball...that was possibly the worst blowup I've seen since the Ravens at Miami debacle.

Damn ugly. This seems to be a curse of MD basketball forever. None of our coaches seem to be able to keep the players heads in the game. Kinda like the Ravens prevent defense.

NIT here we come. If we didnt turn the ball over 50 times like every game we would have won by 30, Gary needs to step up his coaching

Well they certainly suck. Gary Williams is a piece of shit when it comes to having a disciplined or composed team.
Just think after this year it will be the Vasquez show with no supporting cast. Think he can get up to 40 turnovers a game?

Worst loss of the year! Ouch. You can now nail the coffin shut...Terps are NIT bound yet again! MD has to do something with GW.

Gary put McAlpin back in the game when they were up big.
What's he do? Misses a wide open layup that leads to a Clemson fast break and bucket.
Milbourne played like a scared kid with that ridiculous pass that was stolen.
I thought it couldn't get worse than the VT loss.
I guess I was wrong.

I turned on the game with about 4 minutes left and MD up by 13.
All I saw was a bunch of guys who couldn't wait to get the hell out of the arena. Afraid to shoot. Afraid to defend. Passing skills gone. I can't say I've seen anything quite like it before. Once it was tied, it was obvious how it was going to end. Every MD player had tire tracks across their backs. That was flat out embarassing, especially for a team that absolutely needed that game for a chance at the tournament.
I hope Gary set off a thermonuclear blast in the locker room. They deserved it.

You're right, it was embarrassing. I don't know how the hell this team beat North Carolina in Chapel Hill -- they couldn't hold a twenty point lead against Clemson AT HOME?!?
About ten days ago they were in good shape, and have just gone in the tank since then. Can't beat Virginia Tech at home, can't beat Clemson at home, can't hold a lead against anyone . . . they clearly don't deserve to be in the tournament.
Gary's blood pressure must have been sky-high after that fiasco.

So your willing to say a 9-7 (assuming they beat UVA) ACC squad doesn't deserve to be in the tournament over some Missouri Valley Conference team. Plus, as i said in another thread, CBS and Linardi have us in. This team for some odd reason plays alot better on the road then at home. Who knows what that reason is but it will come in handy when they go to selection Sunday.

some Missouri Valley Conference team
Uhh, don't get me wrong, I'm a Terp apologist through and through and all, but I'd venture a guess that the top 3 in the MVC can run with the top 3 in the ACC. Personally, I think the Terps will squeak into the Tourney, and then get bounced in the first round....(wait doesn't that happen almost every year???):grbac: Oh well, Fight on mighty Terrapins, fight on!!!

Got a good friend who is an MVC alum (Wichita State) and he assures me that unless someone unforeseen wins Arch Madness this year that the MVC really is nothing more than a one bid conference this year. They might get more than that because of how well they've done in recent years, but Drake (pre-season consensus to come 8th or something ridiculous in the MVC) are really the only tourney worthy team this year in the MVC in his opinion.

Anyone blaming Gary Williams for that utter lack of heart by our boys is insane. No amount of coaching in the world will give a person the heart to execute well in the clutch.
No amount of instruction can cure a team of wilting in the final minutes of a (home) game in front of one of the greatest crowds in college basketball. Gary Williams is the most intense member of the Terps organization. He just needs to recruit players who mirror his intensity like we've had in the past to prevent losses like the Clemson fiasco from happening in the future.
