For those of us concerned that Rex might end up as the DC in Cinn:
Bengals hire Zimmer as DC (http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6594)

This should be interesting now if the Falcons go with someone other than Ryan.
You can count him out of our DC plans probably, too much bad blood now. But, I can't see any other opportunities opening up, unless maybe Cincy beings him in as a DL coach and Assistant HC.
Or possibly doing the same thing in D.C.

I agree.
Don't see anyway Rex is brought back here in any capacity.
Not so much as the bad blood, but also wanting to completely clean house of all aspects from the last regime with ties to the lockerroom and these players.

i disagree, when ever you fire a head coach you usually fire the entire staff, since tht staff is made up of the former coaches pickings. You have to do that so you can say to the HC here make your team up as you see fit, but then also say hey these guys are worth looking into to. Rex is a grown man and understands this is a business, and if he does not get the HC job in ATL, i would guarentee he is here as DC next season.

I hope that isn't the case. Just as the belief is that Billick's time was up so too was Ryan's IMO. Whoever takes the top job I hope doesn't bring back any of the former coaches. I want this entire team uneasy about their status. I want them all to have to prove it to the new guys. I'm not saying they can't or won't but I want them to have to really fight for their slots.

That would be an awkward situation with Rex being under the guy who took the job he hoped to get.
I don't think if I was a new guy coming in I'd have Rex hanging around, with the power he has with the vets in the locker room.
Not saying that Rex would rock the ship. Its just that you don't want to take that chance.

this is the same dillema the O's faced when Lee Mazzilli got the job, and they kept Sam Perlozzo on as bench coach. It was weird and awkward, and a couple years down the line, they fired Mazzilli and gave the job to Perlozzo. At the time, all the players could talk about was supporting Perlozzo and they were glad to see him get his shot.
If Rex stayed, you'd get a lot of players backing Rex more than the HC, and that's a dangerous situation.

Better Ryan under Garrett than Garrett under Ryan. Oh, the humanity.

Ryan is windbag. We've had a great defense under every coordinator we've ever had here (under Billick, Marvin's D sucked until Billick came aboard). It's pretty telling that all of these coordinators that have left for HC positions haven't been lighting it up. Under Ryan we had a great and undisciplined defense. All the fatman did was line the players up and let them play on an island. They called the shots.
Our defense has always been about the talent. If we had that kind of talent on the offensive side of the ball we wouldn't be looking for a coach right now. We would be the freaking Patriots. When alot of that talent went to IR this season "Ryan's" defense got torched. I really don't see anything special about Rex Ryan.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing, that it would be just like that Orioles situation, which didn't exactly work out great. I would be very surprised if Ryan comes back. If he doesn't get a HC job, he'll land somewhere as a DC. But it won't be here.

I could even see him getting an Assistant HC - Defense position...that way, he's positioning himself for a move soon by having some added responsibilities.
I wish him luck. He's a great guy, as a lot of people put it...An "old school" coach who'd rather call plays, get in the rough, and drink beer, than play the corporate part that most HC nowadays have to do.

:iagree: I especially think it's amusing that Lewis, who by some people here's opinion was the entire brains behind the 2000 Ravens, has a defense that is among the worst in the league. I don't want to see Ryan as HC under any circumstances.

With all that is being said, I am still glad that we don't have to play against his defense twice next year.
