View Full Version : Straw Poll: Who would you pick for HC?

I know there's a thread of this, but I just want to put it to a vote...
If you had the final say in the committee of Bisciotti, Cass, and Newsome, who would you pick as the next Ravens HC? Granted, we don't know how any of them interviewed, but go based on performance, history, and intangibles.

Bill Cowher is the only possible upgrade I can see over Billick. Shwartz may be able to be as good as Billick was someday, but Cass must not like the guy because we have no interest. The rest of these guys don't impress me at all.

Purpleguy, why do you suspect Cass? Just curious, Cass seems to take a lot of heat...it could be Ozzie or Bisciotti that doesn't have interest in Schwartz, or it could be something else altogether.

Because it seems like Cass is heading this charge. Maybe he needs to poll the janitors and towel boys on their feelings about Shwartz.

I've said since Billick was fired that I thought Rex Ryan was the best guy for the job. But I wouldn't argue with Jason Garrett or even Marty either.

I agree that Bill Cowher (or Marty) represents our best chance of winning consistently over the long haul! Dick Cass worries me, and we'll see how this plays out!

1. Bill Cowher will not ruin his Steeler legacy by coming to Baltimore so we can all forget about him. Why do we want him anyway?
2. Marty-ball? Does anybody really want that around here? Bisciotti wouldn't have thrown $15 mill away if he wanted a boring offense.
3. Garrett is too young, plus he is loaded with weapons on that team. Umm, we are not loaded with weapons on offense. Can he handle our primadona players? Let's analyze a TD play from the Giants game -- Romo fade pass to TO for a TD - wow that is great playcalling. Let's face it Romo and TO can execute the plays whereas our players can't. Let's not get carried away with all the hype over Garrett. 17 points against the Giants at home in the playoffs? If he's a genious when the team is scoring 35 then he needs to be accountable over the last 6 weeks when that team's offense has struggled. Next.
4. We need a Jack del Rio type. A former player that may not have head coaching experience but who is hard-nosed and commands respect because he's been there. Not saying this is who I would hire because I don't know him and don't know anything about his skills, but Singletary fits that bill. He may not be head coaching material (Ozzie and company can determine that), but he's the type of guy the Ravens need to get - a guy that will not bow down to these players and also commands respect. He can easily hire the coordinators and coaches to coach up the players and develop schemes. The Ravens need a leader that is not afraid to tell Ray to shut his yap and to tell Bart to stop making excuses and to stop covering the invisible man in pass coverage.
The players need to be held accountable by someone. I'm so sick of the entitlement attitude from these rock stars. Rex thinks every defensive player is the best in the league - no wonder the players are lobbying for him - give me a break. See ya later Rex. Nice defense the last half of the year, allowing almost 30 points per game.
Here's a poll question... if we didn't live in Baltimore and instead lived in a city or state with no NFL team - would we even like this team?
Get some fresh coaching meat in here and light these players up some. Be careful what you wish for, rock stars.

I've been a season ticket holder since 96 and I'm starting to not like this team, so I can gaurantee you folks outside of Baltimore hate this team. We have a bunch of whining dicks on this team. They give up 30 points a game, but that won't stop them from beating their chest because they "stopped the run". There is no discipline and no accountability, just egos and pro-bowl selections.

I dont think it is as clearly black and white as you suggest. But we need a new mantra and more onfield discipline. There is no way a defensive team can win giving up so many stupid penalties. Including offense and special teams. To win with our style of team, defense first, we need to play field posistion and with fantastic discipline. We need to establish some early leads so that the other team is forced to play to our defense's strengths. We need to start kicking the ball into the endzone on kickoffs and we need to play with controlled passion. We have the passion just no discipline.

Then leave then, you quitter. You've been nothing but a negative whiner yourself. So when things go tough with your family, do you bail on them too?

Who gives a rats ass what other team fans think of us? Do you walk around all day wondering what people think of you? Go back and read your last 20 posts. You seem to like being a whiner yourself. I get all kinds of respect when I tell people here Im from Baltimore. Granted, I lived in Fells for 6 years but these hay seeds here in Texas dont know the difference.

... and that's exactly why our coach was let go. Let me know when you officially bail. I have some friends who are real fans, who dont bail on their team when the going gets tough and will gladly pay you for your seats.
You're pathetic.

Jason Garrett's offense looked about as exciting and effective as ours did last year vs the Dolts, and he has a supposed superstar QB and WR.
Someone remind me again why BB was fired?

Easy. Garrets offense looked bad in one game. BB's looked bad every game.

Dallas's offense hasn't played that well for the past few weeks, actually since they locked up the division.
I just have doubts that Garret is tough enough to control the Ravens. I just get this mental picture of Garret telling Ray to do something and Ray dumping Garret into the nearest trash can after telling him this is his team. Could be wrong but it's just a concern I have.

If Ray does do that, then I say bench his ass.
With that said, I dont see Ray even coming close to doing that. Yes, he has spoken out of turn on occasion, but there isnt even one rumor for not following direction.

People that are bailing on Garrett because of yesterday's game crack me up.
Im neither here nor there as far as he goes but some of you all need to a dose of reality.
Even good coordinators have games where their units aren't perfect and underperform.
It's gonna really interesting to see what kind of reaction our new coach gets when our offense or defense has a bad game.
Seems to me that some people have ridiculously unrealistic expectations of what a new coach will bring.

O, he's definitely not followed direction before.
In fact, it's on tape.
During the Jets game in 04 I believe, Mike Nolan had to get Singletary to tell Ray to shut up and run the defenses he was calling.

I think Garrett's the right one for the job.
Talk about Ego...this guy kept T.O. happy, created a productive offense, and developed a UNDRAFTED FREE AGENT into a borderline top tier QB.
I think that's says enough, and the players love him. I think he's got a similar style in terms of working with people, but he's got a different philosophy in how to deal with the game itself. That means a transition that is smooth in comparison.
That also (hopefully) means that he's going to be able to work with the talent here rather than attempt to get a 5 year free pass to totally change players over to "his" people.

Have any of you who sit here and bitch about the players getting pumped after they make a play ever played the game of organized football, and i don't mean flag. Please go get game film of every team in the nfl and watch what happens on the field to the team that is losing, they get pumped up after a play, it is what you have to do in order to play D, stay jacked up. You guys call this a team of misfits and whiners, but it is you the fans of baltimore that are whiners. You guys have no clue about football period this is obvious. I am saying this to everyone who says we have a bad locker room, whiners, ect get a clue. When you find 1 team out there that is not like this let me know, and if you even come close to telling me the pats you are dumber than I thought!

if that's the case, Bisciotti should make sure Garrett never makes it to Atlanta for his interview there...
If the deal isn't done tonight, that means 1) he didn't wow us enough, 2) he wanted to keep looking for other opportunities or 3) he wants more money.

I love these people, last year no way in hell would they be called "douchebags", now we have a bad year, the players act the same as every other year and they are douchebags. Get a life bro. When you wake up and stop being bandwagon fan let me know. Also just because you post on this board does not mean you are true fan, a true fan doesn't whine in every post because they had a bad year.

I've been calling Ray Lewis a douchebag since 2000. I held the same contempt for Jamal Lewis. There are many regulars on here that can vouch for that fact. I've also been questioning Ogden's intensity for the past 5 years. The character of this team has been an issue with me for quite some time, win or lose. I'm not a fan of pre-game dances. I don't really dig celebrations after a tackle 5 yards down the field. Endzone dances, 3rd down sack celebrations are one thing, but these guys get overhyped for mediocre performances. I've also been unhappy with the direction our FO has taken on the offensive side of the ball.
I know Ray and Ozzie are Gods around these parts. I just don't share that opinion. Since this a place to share opinions, I'll share mine.

Clearly you dont like Ray and that's certainly your right to do so.
But name calling? That "douchebag" is one of the very few athletes who came out of college early to return and finish his degree -- with a B+ average. That "douchebag" to date has given upwards of $2+ Million of his own money to fight AIDS in Africa. That "douchebag" uses his foundation to keep inner-city kids in school, buy them school supplies and start youth sports leagues on the west side of the city.
Take your uninformed hate somewhere else. If you have issues with his sportsmenship during the game, then make an intelligent argument. But if you insist on ignorant tactics such as name calling, I think I speak for most here when I say go away!
