What happened to, "I want to stay in Baltimore"?
Jerk-Off!!
The sad part is that they let AD walk with intention of Re-Signing Suggs.
Ozzie really messed this one up.

I wouldnt get to worked up about this. The quote is not given a time. He could have said it predraft.
I've heard seen on this very board that suggs wants to be with the skins, and over on a browns board some poster claimed it a "well known fact" he told savage he wanted to be a brown.

So?
1) He's posturing because afterall he IS a free agent.
2) He's from Arizona.
3) Isn't this exactly why you want to hire Jim Schwartz??
I'm all for Suggs leaving, but to get all panties bunched up over THIS is ridiculous....ridiculous and a half even.

Two things.
One, you can't really blame him. He grew up in Arizona so it stands to reason he'd want to play there. I admit that I would play for the Ravens before any other NFL team but I'm a weird situation.
Two, it should be obvious that being in the NFL helps with the ladies. No way Bubba Suggs gets a woman like that without playing pro ball.

Let him go he's not worth the money he is asking for anyway. He can be replaced.

I would understand this kind of posturing if he just had a Pro-Bowl year. This is just lunacy!
In a time when we're not even sure who is going to be HC, for him to pull this now is pretty classless. I was a big Suggs backer but now Im not so sure.

It was at the ASU-Arizona Basketball game, which was this past Wednesday Night.
It was not pre-draft, it was this week.

I can't blame him either, but he told the Baltimore press that he wanted to stay here, then tells the Arizona press he wants to play with the Cards. There is no loyality left in the Ravens Lockeroom,

I don't see the big deal here. He's not saying he wants to leave Baltimore - but he has free agency pending and why would he not want to play in his home town if a deal can't be reached here?
Suggs has repeatedly expressed his love of playing here for the Ravens. He brings character and passion to the defense and teams still have to gameplan for him. Yes, he had a down year last season but he's still an elite DE that we'd miss sorely if we let go. From all accounts, we'll franchise him anyway if we can't strike a deal this off season.
People need to stop getting so worked up about non-stories like a jealous husband who sees their wife talking to another guy. Sheesh.

if he wants to go..then go. he's overrated and was FAR less effective w/out Trevor Price in the lineup.

Thats what we all thought would happen with AD.
From what I have heard, The FO does not want to Franchise players anymore.
If I were a betting man, I would say that Suggs will walk.

I don't see what is such a big deal about this. He's without a contract, he's an Arizona State alum, there is, to say the least, uncertainty on his current team, the Cards are playing a little better with this coaching staff, the Cards have a nice new stadiumm. What's not to like?
We just have to accept that not every player in the world is dying to play in Baltimore. When push comes to shove he'll go where the money is just like all of them.

If I was a free agent I'd use any angle I could get to drum up the most interest in me. That's business. If he uses the Cardinals to get a better contract, either from them, from us or from someone else, then he's doing what's best for him. And don't begrudge him the statement that he'd love to play for the team he grew up watching. Hell, if you asked each Raven whether they'd love to be playing for the Pats or Colts or Cowboys or Packers right now, 90% of them would admit it if they were off the record. You can want to play in Arizona and still love playing in Baltimore.
As for whether Suggs stays, I don't really care. I'm comfortable with paying big bucks for him because he's young, talented, injury-free... yeah, he had a sub-par year, but honestly, we were 5-11 and a lot of people had sub-par years. It happens. What would be a travesty is letting him walk without getting anything back for him. We should extend him, franchise him, or pull off a sign and trade before the opening of free agency (or after franchising him).
I'm not a fan of Suggs as a person, he has trouble controlling his temper and often seems like a primadonna. I would be fine seeing him in another uniform. But to let him walk would be a mistake if we're not getting something in return. And we simply cannot take for granted a guy who has done so much in such a short period of time in the league; on almost any other defense this guy would be the best player. Ozzie, get something done so we don't just watch him walk.
I can't blame him either, but he told the Baltimore press that he wanted to stay here, then tells the Arizona press he wants to play with the Cards. There is no loyality left in the Ravens Lockeroom
Maybe Suggs has a gut feeling about playing for the Cards. Steve Bisciotti had one about looking for a new coach. Loyalty is not a primary concern in the NFL.

Ok, so we should franchise Suggs....and send him to GB! make him play in the freezing cold, FAR away from sunny Arizona!
Actually, I'm just kidding, but I think we should get the best value for him that we can. Franchise tag him and then shop him, all over. Someone will probably bite, and take their deal to the bank. If it's Arizona, then cool. If not, sorry TSizzle, it's a business!

well, I know that, but I also don't want to be some evil franchise that's going to force Suggs to stay here if he doesn't want to. We should only have players who want to be here. That said, I don't want to just let him walk away. We should get some value for him before he leaves.

We should only have players who want to be here.
In today's NFL, that's almost nonexistent. Players will go to the teams that offer them the most money. Playing careers are short and the chance for injury is always there, so these guys want to cash in as big as they can while they can.
Suggs will not see the open market. I see him being franchised, and maybe traded if a team wants to give up a lot.

If this team does not...in the words of Denny Green...FRANCHISE HIS ASS!, I will be beyond pissed.
They stupidly didn't do it last year...and I don't care what anybody says, that was absolutely retarded...I understand about not wanting to piss AD off, but he is going to do what is in his best interests...ie...get as much cash as possible...and we need to do what is in the teams best interests...ie...get as much compensation as possible for him.
We aren't eve absolutely sure we are getting a 3rd...watch some BS happen like we get awarded a 4th or 5th when we could have gotten probably at least a 2 for him.
Franchise Suggs and if the Cards want him bad enough, ante up some draft picks.
Ok, so we should franchise Suggs....and send him to GB! make him play in the freezing cold, FAR away from sunny Arizona!
Franchised players can't be traded without them agreeing to a new deal with the team you are sending them to. So we can't trade him anywhere or "shop him all over" unless it is a place he is willing to go.
AZRAVEN
01-11-2008, 01:46 PM
The only problem with franchising a player with the intention of trading him is if you aren't able to find a team willing to pay the freight you are stuck with a disgruntled player that you're paying top dollar for. I don't have a problem franchising a player while you try to work out a long term deal but franchise to trade could be a double edged sword.

Has anyone seen the video?
Seen what context this was in?
Was it just a little side note and he said he'd want to play in Arizona at some point?
Something like.....
Reporter: Hey Terrell. Have you ever thought about playing for the Cardinals?
Suggs: Sure, I'd love to come back and play for my home team. It's always been a dream of mine to play for the Cardinals.
Hell people, there isn't even a quote and some of you act like he committed treason.
And this is coming from someone who's not that big of a Suggs fan in the first place.
Some of you need to get a grip.

if they let AD go w/ the intent of keeping Suggs long term then not finding a way to have Suggs back next year, even if the Franchise tag is needed, would seem to be odd logic.

*Fixed*
If Suggs can drum up a competition for his services, it will help him get more money. His loyalty should be to his bank account, not a jersey. After he retires I sure as hell am not going to pay his bills, and the NFL isn't going to look out for him either.
I love my job and I have a great boss who I am very loyal to. The day I feel like I can get a better paying job that will be in my best interests to take, my boss can kiss my ass. Pro athletes are no different.

You do realize that coming of a 6 sack season in 2006 that Freeney signed his monster deal right?
Is Suggs as good as Freeney? Nope.
But one would argue Suggs is a more complete player as far as stopping the run. He routinely has far more tackles than Freeney.
He's also 2.5 years younger than Freeney.
I say this as a reminder to some of you who seem willing to toss Suggs to the side for nothing because a reporter from a local Arizona TV channel reported that Suggs said "he wants to play for the Cardinals" even though we don't even have a quote nor know the exact context.
I have my own issues with Suggs.
But I can recognize he's still a very valuable piece of the puzzle for this team. He's never missed a game and he's 25 years old. He's averaged 9 sacks a year and has absolutely improved his overall game a ton since his rookie year.
So some of you can fly off the handle at some rinky dink report that most likely means about nothing.
I can understand rational talk about the reasons it might not be prudent for this team to break the bank for him or how he seems to fall into the undisciplined crowd too much.
But to jump all over him for this?
Cmon.

What else is going to say? The guy grew up in Arizona for crying out loud! Ask any pro athlete if they would want to play for their hometown team and 90% of them would say yes.
Suggs has stated several times that he is a Baltimore Raven, and his heart is in Baltimore. He was just responding to a question. He's smart enough to know how to answer questions. He's not going to sit there and say "screw Arizona and the Cardinals" at a sporting event in Arizona. He played along with the reporter, and his fans. It's a non issue IMO.

Blurb on the daily rumor mill yesterday @ http://www.profootballtalk.com with a link to the story from the paper in Arizona, which is http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/106327 . There's a picture of King Ugly w/ his ASU garb on sitting next to a woman w/ her Arizona garb on. The article says the Cardinals have said they don't expect to make any high dollar FA signings this year.

That is not his girl, she is a friend! His girl doesn't even live in AZ. His girl is not as cute as this one but that IMO ;)
And once again my 2 cents of thought as Suggs friend, he is staying in Baltimore. I do not think he wants to leave he simply just said he would go back to AZ if the chance came!Which like all others said you can not blame him for that, his family and friends are there.
