I have a question

I want him for my team. Do you think the Ravens will be able to re-sign him, or is he gone in free agency?

Couple of thoughts, the framework of which is discussed in a little dephth in this thread http://ravens24x7.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18158
I like I imagine most of us, learn to love and appreciate our players. ANd Suggs is no exception.
Unfortunately, Suggs skill set is one that the Ravens personell/scouting is excellent at finding, and in the later rounds.
As much as I'd love to see Suggs here, I can't see blowing big cap space on another LB/DE, it doesn't make sense to me in light of the overall make-up of the team.
The other consideration, which we will have no answers for until the coaching staff is resolved, is what is the new DC going to want to do? A 4-3-4 or a 3-4-4 alignment. Until that is set, I don't think the management that is left, can really put a true team value price tag on getting Suggs signed.
Resolving myself to the fact that Suggs probably is gone.

I would like to see him stay - with Trevor Pryce back next year, it would do wonders for the pass rush - but if some other team will be ponying up Dwight Freeney money, he's gone. I would not be surprised if he gives the Ravens something of a hometown discount, but probably not much.

How much can you really afford to pay him given your cap situation?

This sounds like a fantasy football question.

Well, I personally have put in $1.25, money I saved from not super sizing my lunch.
Who *is* your team, anyway?

The papers have been stating that they are close to a deal.

Kind of a moot thread. Suggs has said for a long time he wants to stay a Raven so Im thinking he will accept less to stay here.
That, and I dont see any teams so far beating down his door. The teams that need him are in cap jail as we are. Plus, they know we can franchise him.

Great reply Festivus. Hey, I'll even match that $1.25. C'mon gang, pony up to keep Suggs! :)

I'll walk to work for the rest of the week and that'll put an extra £9 ($18) in to the pot.

Wow this has already been answered before the season was even over!! :insane:
As a friend of Suggs, he is staying! They have been working with him since the last few weeks of the season to get a new contract under the works. I have seen a lot of people make it out to seem as if he is money hungry and that the Ravens should not pay what he is asking for but that is all False! He loves Baltimore and he loves his team. I am sure in the next few months he will be under a new contract and here to stay!

Some friendly advice I hope you pass on to him then ....
Next time we're down 21 points and he makes a tackle, it's poor form to then stand up and thump your chest as if that tackle was a game saver ...
Just a thought.

We should let him walk.....We need to realize that the new model of winning in the NFL isn't high priced probowlers at positions (pass rushing linebacker) that can be filled MUCH cheaper. Look at the winners of the last 4 or 5 Superbowls. They don't pay their LB's BIG money. That's why Suggs will be back though, because other teams aren't going to cap jail over a pass rusher. We already pay Ray Lewis huge money, is it wise to sign Suggs and put all those resources into the linebacking core? Do you think the Squeelers regret letting Levon Kirkland go?

Without the presence of Trevor Pryce, Sugg's has appeared to be just an average player. He still lacks the moves that a good defensive end should have in his repertoire. I wouldn't break the bank trying to re-sign him when the team has so many other areas of concern.

I'm starting to think this Trevor Pryce thing is getting a bit overblown. Suggs pu tup big numbers prior to Pryce's arrival. He is certainly not the most effective pass rusher when he's the go to guy, but he is certainly a good supplementary rusher. He really is suited best in a true 3-4, where he has little coverage responsibilities, and rushes the passer in a complimentary nature.

Remember though he gave a lot of credit for those numbers to AD, for being his complementary pass rusher pre-Trevor Pryce.

Let's not forget that Bart Scott was used more in a pass rushing role in previous years too. When AD left, Scott had to assume some of AD's coverage responsibilities. With Trevor Price out and AD gone, Suggs was the sole pass rusher. Teams could game plan for Suggs.

Franchise him.
The guy has monster talent. He was double teamed most of the time.

Trade him for Larry Fitzgerald. Suggs wants to go to AZ and we need a legit #1 WR.
