May as well. We can beat these guys! Hoping for a good day from Kyle, and if not, a cameo by Troy. Let's go Ravens!

You're my eyes and ears today, as I'm on the Auto Train heading north from Florida.

No TV - just a Blackberry and a power outlet.

I was actually feeling pretty optimistic about this game, but after hearing a little while ago that CMac and Heap have been ruled out, I'm feeling a little less hopeful. Ivy gets the start. :grbac:

But this would make a win even more inspiring.

StingerNLG
11-25-2007, 04:00 PM
CMac is out. Heap is out. Wilcox is out. D-Will is out.

My expectations of this game pretty much went out the window. Here's to just not getting blown out today.

I won't be here after 5:00, I have a band rehersal tonight. So I'll have to watch the 1st quarter then stay off the forum until I get home and get through the rest of the game DVR'ed.

Ravens open at the 25.

1st, McGahee up the middle for 4.
2nd and 6, complete to Mason for 5.
3rd and 1, PA, incomplete for Mason. Catchable ball, but could have been thrown better.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:19 PM
3 and out...damn

StingerNLG
11-25-2007, 04:19 PM
So now we have no game clock. And we have the same offensive line, as evidenced by McGahee getting half a yard on the first run attempt.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:20 PM
come on d come up big

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:21 PM
SD takes over at the 21.

1st, LT for 1.
2nd and 9, LT for no gain.
3rd and 9, Rivers hit as he throws, complete to Nane, gain of 7-8 and 3 and out.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:22 PM
Nice showing by the dee eh

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:22 PM
Barnes almost had a block, punt was a touchback.

Enberg is a doofus as always.

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:23 PM
Chargers went no-huddle right away on second down, but of course commentators didn't bother to mention it.

Nice first series for the defense.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:24 PM
Lets see some offense, whatcha say boys

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:25 PM

11-25-2007, 04:26 PM
"You want to get a refund if you are McGahee on your protection".

Gee. As season ticket holders, some of us should too.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:26 PM
1st, slant dropped by Mason. Of course, Enberg calls him Darling.
2nd, McGahee absolutely blown up in the backfield by Merriman. 4-5 yard loss.
3rd and 14, Merriman jumps, Boller scrambles for 8 yards, and the flag comes.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:27 PM
3rd and 9, CAUGHT by Mason as he bats it up TWICE at the 40. GREAT effort by Derrick.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:27 PM
nice effort by Mason. Nice circus catch

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:28 PM
1st, McGahee gets space up the middle and gets 8.
2nd and 2, McGahee gets 4 and a first.

RavenFanatic2k6
11-25-2007, 04:28 PM
Glad to see Yanda is in there.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:29 PM
1st, Boller overthrows a blanketed Darling, but they draw a flag. PI is called. Kind of a weak call.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:29 PM
Nice Pass interference. Take it

RavenFanatic2k6
11-25-2007, 04:30 PM
Would it be too much to ask Ogden to block someone?

phatboy
11-25-2007, 04:30 PM
JO is a fing revolving door

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:31 PM
Jammer's flag will put it at the SD 36.
1st, McGahee stopped for a loss.
2nd and 12, Boller overthrows Mason running a quick out.
3rd, Ravens take a TO, confusion on offense.

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:32 PM
MaGahee is 5 carries for 8 yards -- not his fault, but no wonder Billick is calling for pass plays.

But that's only working half the time too -- Mason was open on that sideline pass and Boller overthrew him.

JO is off to a bad start.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:34 PM
3rd, Boller gets a ton of pressure and immediately scrambles right, hits Mason but he had his feet OOB, so incomplete.

phatboy
11-25-2007, 04:36 PM
If we throw one more third down pass behind the friggin first down line I am gonna tear the two hairs I have left out.

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:37 PM
That punt bounced off a Chargers' heel but landed straight into the arms of another Charger. Just our luck.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:37 PM
take it easy phat, its only the 1st quarter. I hear ya though

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:38 PM
Nice tacle by Ray on LT

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:38 PM
1st from the 21, Rivers completes to Chambers, smacked by Rolle after about 6.
2nd and 4, LT gets 1 or 2.
3rd and 2, complete to LT who is 1 yard in front of the sticks. First down.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:40 PM
1st, Rivers lobs it to Jackson, and gets 7.
2nd and 3, Rivers pump fakes, rolls right, has a mile ahead of him but opts to throw to Chambers on the sideline, incomplete.
3rd and 3, Ravens blitz, Rivers throws before Gates turns, incomplete.
Nice job, D.

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:41 PM
Refs just missed a holding call on second down. Chargers seem to have already given up on running and are now passing.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:41 PM
Punt was horrible, but takes a Charger roll to the 11.

phatboy
11-25-2007, 04:43 PM

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:43 PM
Tough break on the punt -- no breaks for us so far on punts. They get a lucky bounce on our punt, and on theirs.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:45 PM
1st, on the money to Mason, but he can't come down with it as the coverage was good. Almost deflected to Clayton.
2nd, really crappy play to give to Willis, loses 1.
2nd and 11, Boller goes deep, floated, intercepted by Cromartie, but flags are down. Illegal contact on Cromartie. Good things happen when you go deep.

Very good call. Mason would have made the catch had he not pulled him.

RavenFanatic2k6
11-25-2007, 04:46 PM
Why the hell is every pass going to Mason? Is Boller even looking at the other guys? The offense works much better when they are throwing to Clayton and Darling, see last week.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:46 PM
Terrible pass thank god there was a penalty

highwater
11-25-2007, 04:46 PM
Our OL isn't giving MaGahee any help at all.

StingerNLG
11-25-2007, 04:47 PM
Man, an another lucky break. Thank goodness. Although now I see why Mason was off the ball.

Are we getting some of that luck we haven't had in weeks?

And nice to see our offensive line is picking up where they left off last week. McGahee has 15 yards in 7 carries.

Mason appears to be the only receiver that seems to be able to get open anywhere on the field. so far Clayton and Darling have been held in perfect check.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:48 PM
1st from the 14, Willis bounces right for 6.
2nd and 4, Willis for 1 or 2.
3rd and 3, Boller throws behind his man slightly, closer to Weddle. Incomplete.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 04:48 PM
Who is boller throwing the ball too. Oh man that was just horrrible

This looks like it's going to be a lower-scoring game than I thought.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:52 PM
1st, complete to LT, gets 6 or 7.
2nd and 4, LT for no gain. Flag down. Somehow Kelly Gregg gets called for a hold. Ugh. First down.

phatboy
11-25-2007, 04:52 PM
Some one please explain how you can have D holding on a run play

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:53 PM
1st from the Ravens 42, complete to Chambers for 2, nailed by Landry afterwards.
2nd and 8, Chargers going no huddle, complete to Jackson for 9, poor coverage by Ivy.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:54 PM
1st, LT stopped for no gain as he motions into the backfield.
2nd and 10, blitz comes, and the dump/screen goes to LT, gets about 15 yards. Looked like an illegal block there, but no call. That ends the 1st quarter.

StingerNLG
11-25-2007, 04:56 PM
That was a quick first quarter.

No running game. No passing game. No protection. One open receiver.

Welcome to Ravens football.

BTW, when receivers can't get seperation from the DB's, why don't they try to come back like the Chargers WR's have done a couple times today?

Oh well, that's it for me. I've got to run. Here's to some good luck coming our way. :/

Sephy
11-25-2007, 04:58 PM
1st from the 16, LT up the middle for 4.
2nd and 6, complete to LT, who is pushed OOB by JJ after 5 yards. Abbreviations!
3rd and 1, Rivers takes a TO.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 05:01 PM
3rd and 1, Bannan gets great penetration and LT stopped for a loss of 1-2. Nice stop!

FG is good, 3-0 SD.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 05:04 PM
GREAT return by Figurs into SD territory!!

11-25-2007, 05:05 PM
1st from the 38, McGahee up the middle for 4 or so.
2nd and 6, McGahee up the middle for 7 and a first. Running hard.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 05:07 PM
1st, Willis for no gain, maybe 1.
2nd and 10, complete to Syp for 2. Definitely looking deeper on that throw.
3rd and 8, complete to Mason to the ONE! GREAT THROW!

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 05:07 PM

11-25-2007, 05:08 PM

7-3 good guys.

RavenScallywag
11-25-2007, 05:09 PM
just when I think I can peg the Ravens...was listening to us earlier and wrote this game off to be a 6 point loss, where SD gets one TD and a bunch of FGs...

Didn't think we'd actually be able to score! Kudos to 1) Figurs!, 2) Boller to Mason (pump up my fantasy stats, Mason!), and then, my favorite raven on offense, MCGAHEE!

RavenFanatic2k6
11-25-2007, 05:10 PM
First and goal, one yard to go, we run it and get in. See that Billick? Maybe if you had done that against the Bengals, Bills, and Browns, we'd have three more wins. Freakin' moron.

1st, floated for Gates, gain of 5.
2nd and 5, LT hit in the backfield, loses about 3 yards. Maybe 4.
3rd and 9, complete to Jackson for 15 and a first. Receiver comes back for it. Our guys can NOT cover that comeback/curl route.

Sephy
11-25-2007, 05:16 PM
1st, PA, overthrows Gates.
2nd, Gates wide open, blown coverage by Landry, gain of 11.

crazyraven
11-25-2007, 05:17 PM
Ouch, Gates td

Sephy
11-25-2007, 05:17 PM

2nd, deep over the middle, WIDE OPEN Gates, touchdown.

Inexcusable loss of coverage there. Someone REALLY fucked that up.

2nd and 8, Rivers throws to LT who falls down, and a pick falls right to Ray and he can't get it. DAMN.
3rd, Rivers pressured, and throws to nowhere.

2nd and 11, ball right to Darling's numbers dropped. What is this guy's problem?
3rd, Boller sacked at the 11. Overloaded 2 guys on Yanda.

RavenFanatic2k6

We simply can't play in the first half this season. Have we played one good first half this year?

RavenFanatic2k6
11-25-2007, 05:48 PM
If I'm Billick, I'm benching almost all the starters at halftime. Keep Ray, Haloti, Mason, and Willis out there. Everyone else, since they don't want to play hard, they can sit on the bench and let players who want to play have some fun.

I can not WAIT to see how this is going to be painted as ALL BOLLER's FAULT. Sure, his awareness stinks, but cripes... no protection, dropped passes, and about another dozen offensive issues. And defense... BLECH! Great... they are stopping the run. How about some coverage down deep?

You're right, Boller should have eyes in the back of his head. he also needs to learn how to block since his o-line can't. It would also be nice if he could throw the ball then run down the field and get open to catch it. Ozzie has failed miserably in finding offensive talent. It's becoming painfully obvious.

BTW, maybe Boller needs to cover Gates as well.

i'm ever the optimist...we're showing some progress...

we went from being a completely inept offense against the terrible Browns D, to being a mediocre offense against a pretty strong Chargers D.

But I seriously hope that the Baltimore media, out of mercy, somehow doesn't televise the games in the next two weeks. Because they will be UGLY.

Raveninwoodlawn
11-25-2007, 06:17 PM
This is just sad.

It's to be expected at this point.

This is the worst offense I have ever seen...how the hell are the Chargers scheming to get favorable matchups almost every snap and we are struggling to complete 2 yard passes.

Speaking of 2 yard passes...why is Billick scheming to have this short passing game when your QB has one of the strongest arms in the game and his strength is the intermediate/long game?

I'm sick and tired of these BS game plans and players that can't excecute simple plays.

Purpleguy
11-25-2007, 06:17 PM

i don't even know who we would play for our future at this point!

I wouldn't play Troy Smith, that would be just throwing him to the wolves. McGahee is a good RB, he IS our future. I guess you'd sit Mason and play DVD and Clayton, but that would just make us look sad. OL, I guess you'd bench Flynn, JO, and have an OL of: Gaither/Terry, Brown, Chester, Grubbs, Yanda.

On defense, Gregg, Ngata, and D. Edwards as our DL...We can't bench Suggs because this is his make or break year. Can't bench Ray or Bart Scott, they are our LB cheerleaders. Maybe bench JJ for Barnes? Sit CMac and or Rolle and let the youngsters get burned until they find their rhythm. Reed and Landry stay.

Kyle steps up and he has another second or 2.

It would have been nice for JO to stonewall him for 5 seconds, but Merriman had a VERY wide rush...a rush that most times the DE runs right past the pocket if the QB steps up.

Kyle actually ran backwards while running tho his right.

He wasn't standing back there and getting blindsided as soon as he hit his 5th step. At the very least, do what McNair has continually failed to do...protect the football when you start to scramble and stop carrying it at your hip.

Anyway...that was a very good throw right there for a TD...more of that plz...

Woodlawn, i see what you are saying, but when you know Merriman has you beat, then a holding penalty is perfectly acceptable. Then you have Ogden basically walking to get the fumble. He's pathetic at this point and abviously doesn't want to be out there.

I just haven't seen him making any real mistakes given the o-line and receivers he is working with. I'm not going to blame him for that fumble. That was all big toe JO.

You all need to come to grips with the fact that Tom Brady would look like dogshit on this team.

You haven't seen some terrible passes today?

Wow.

Anyway. It's certainly not just on Boller. He's a minor piece of crap in the major dump this team is taking in San Diego.

Im wondering if ANY NFL has muffed 2 kickoffs like that in a season. Hell, twice in 3 weeks!

Why can't we play like this in the first half?

Because the defense basically gives the game away in the first half, so the blitzes slow down when opposing teams are up 3 scores. With no blitz our 0-line can allow Kyle maybe 2-3 seconds to make a play.

I don't think I've ever seen as big of a difference in pass rush in a 2 year period.

NONE of our blitzes seem to work as they are continually picked up and we are burned.

Suggs has completely disappeared this year. Makes me think twice about giving him the boatload of money he is asking for.

I've seen one or two bad passes. I've seen many more incredible passes. You'll see bad passes from every NFL QB. even those with phenomenal o-lines.

I just have a real problem with the faction that thinks we are a QB and a coach away from being a great team. This team needs some serious reworking, and I don't think Ozzie is up for the task.

BTW, give boller time and he's as good as any QB in the NFL.

A QB has to be aware of what is going on around him too. He is playing just OK in this game, but at this point playing OK is not going to get it done.

He's as good as any QB in the NFL with time?

Good lord man.

I get that his protection is crap. He's made some nice throws and some shit throws. This line has given the "other" QB on this team some shitty protection as well.

I think you know me well enough to know that I believe this team has major issues.

But to say he's as good as any QB in the league if he has time (how much btw?) is a stretch to say the least.

He had time on that 4th down play, that's for sure.

Definately don't agree with this.

Of course if you surround him with perfect parts he will be more than competent.

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen for any QB...this OL isn't the best, but I've definately seen worst here.

And Kyle has looked virtually identical to most QB's we have had here...I definately agree that this system sucks and other players could do more to help out, but I don't see any difference with him when you look at his entire body of work compared to most of the others. His stats are on par with Elvis, Blake, Banks, Dilfer, and even Wright. That is an indication of a problem bigger than the QB, but at the same time, those QB's weren't very good...

And I'm telling you that there isn't a QB alive, dead, or yet to be born that would ever play more than OK in this offense. If our "wizard" of a GM would finally pull his head out of his ass and get a supporting cast then maybe we might see some solid QB play.

Tom brady doesn't even break a sweat. His line is amazing, and Moss turns sure INTs into TDs . Mark Rypien looked like Superman behind that 91 Redskin o-line.

Ozzie has made two serious moves on the o-line in 12 years. One, a can't miss with Ogden. The other a misfire with Searcy.

PP, I respect your posts alot too, and I'll be honest. I think that the pats would be 10-0 with Boller at QB. Laugh all you want, but like I said, Brady doesn't even break a sweat and Moss catches everything thrown within 5 yards of him, even in triple coverage. It's the absolute worst line I've ever seen in the history of the NFL. It's really tough to think about protecting the ball when you're consistently down 2 or 3 scores in the 4th quarter and all you can think about is making something, anything happen. It's a loose-loose situation. Our record shows it.

Is it that far out of the realm of possibility with Moss making amazing plays everytime the ball gets near him? Brady is obviously a better QB than Boller. I'm basing that on his past performance when the supporting cast wasn't as amazing as it is now. This year i think any QB with a strong arm could play pro-bowl caliper in New England.

If Boller had better protection he's a second tier QB. Right now you have Manning, Farve and Romo as the top tier guys. Brady is playing on a whole different level than anybody has ever seen.

With decent protection, I'd put Boller in the realm of guys like Gerrard and Ruthlessburger. We've seen what he can do with time. He, like every other QB since Billick got here, just can't get any protection.

Well, the Texans line since they came into the league is one of the benchmarks...this line is not on pace to give up anywhere near 70+ sacks.

The Browns line before this year have always been bad.

The line here with Kipp Vickers and a rookie Bennie Anderson on the right side when Elvis was here was worse.

The line here with Ethan Brooks during the year Blake was here was bad.

The Bengals lines when they had David Klinger and Akili Smith was terrible.

Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

This line isn't good, but This is FAR from the worst I've ever seen.

Thanks for the mulligan. I put Brady and Manning in a seperate class. I actually feel Manning is better than Brady. His career has seen some crummy defenses, and he's never had the line or receivers that Brady has this year. I'm not quite ready to put Romo in that class.

I still feel Boller has tons of upside, but you're never going to realize it with a crummy o-line and one really good possesion receiver.

BTW, can I at least get credit for one thing. I have been saying for years that Moss made Culpepper look a hundred times better than he actually is. Moss made a bad QB look like a pro-bowler. He's now making a great QB look like God in clete shoes.

Manning has traditionally had a great line. It has taken a hit this year with injuries and whatnot. Really tough to say who would be better between the two of them in the same system.
