Whats up with this undisclosed illness? What is wrong with him? It must be pretty serious if he has been out this long and they will not say what is wrong with him.

I have no idea but I've been wondering the same thing. Maybe it's none of our business, but something is clearly wrong. I was under the impression that he was going to play on Sunday, so I was surprised that he was inactive.
At this point, I just hope he'll be okay.

I agree, although I'm wondering if he picked something up on his trip to Africa this past offseason. I hope he gets well & gets back soon.
As far as DM, I don't know how well he played other then the 1 time Dilfer thhrew at him & he got a PI penalty. I didn't see much more or hear his # called other than that.

That was a hard game to judge because of how badly SF is hurting offensively.
Lets hope Rolle is back for this game, the Rams may be winless, but that group of WRs they have is no joke.

I, too, am very curious what is ailing Samari. We heard that he had a virus, then heard that he had a reaction to the medication. Could there be any support to the rumor that he has contracted shingles as a result of the virus and medication reaction was actually the outbreak of shingles. I know that can be very serious.

I almost started this thread yesterday because I was wondering the same thing. I just hope that he is OK and can work through it. My prayers are with him! I just wish the Ravens would give us more information on his illness. But I guess that is left up to the player and if he wants everyone to know his business.

Ok, let's look at this logically. He has an illness that the team feels is not the fan's business. Why? If it was a common illness, there would be no reason to hide it. In today's society, what types of illness need to be hidden? Genetic diseases, I can't think of any that would be too disturbing to print. Sexuall transmitted diseases, now they are another story.
An earlier post talked about his trip to Africa, a place where AIDS/HIV runs rampant. I realize no one wanted to go there, but I know you all thought that, and that IS a disease the team would want to hide.

Yeah you might be right, he probably has the measles, the club would never want that to get out. Jackass!
Instead of making stupid remarks ( and I mean that was dumb ) why not respond with something like a type of disease that would be of the personal nature that would be covered up by the Ravens.
Or at least instead of being insulting, judgemental, or whatever that obscure moronic comment was, say something that debunks what I wrote with a fact or two.
Rub those 2 brains cells together and conjure something up.

Whether it's the measles or a really bad cold, the HIPAA Act prevents the team from disclosing the illness. So that argument holds no water.

Ask someone with good manners what I meant. They'll help you.
FH, I don't think HIPAA has anything to do with it. I just think when appropriate the team is mum about why players are missing games. It's common decency by the coaching staff, protecting their own. I *think* HIPAA would apply equally to the more traditional football injuries. Plus your comment about yeahravens' 'argument' is somewhat misleading because yeahravens is not making an argument. First he used inductive reasoning to guess that Samari Rolle got AIDS in Africa, then he got hot when I mocked him, then he called me a jackass. Your response is a lot like those who jumped on Sen. McCain for saying that given the choice he would like a president of similar religious beliefs, but would vote for Muslim that was qualified. You look for the bad, and waive the big ole judgemental flag.
Again, I am challenging you to use your mind, and tell the rest of us what type of disease would need to be hidden versus, let's say pink eye which is what T-Sizzle has. Remember, he has been in the NFL for almost 10 years and this is the first time it came up, so your guess would have acknowledge that.

All I know is if he'd picked up HIV in Africa a couple months ago he wouldn't have AIDS yet. As any jackass knows.

Any and all medical information of any kind is covered by HIPAA. The NFL, I am quite sure, has negotiated with the players union to allow for football injuries to be released to the public. This is something the players had to agree to and is probably in every single NFL contract as a standard clause. The allowed specifics are evident, as the injury list is always generic.

Fair enough. But there are times when more details are forthcoming - Suggs & pink eye, Ivy & his emergency abdominal thing last year - and times when it's not - Mike Anderson early this year and Rolle now.
The HIPAA & injury list intersection is interesting. Even generic information can't be released I don't think without consent. There must be some form each player has to sign, with some kind of a release.
More problematic in college, where those consent forms would have bigger legal consequences. I think there was a dust up with the NCAA & HIPAA, though a quick glance around google tells me universities seem to be using some kind of HIPAA waiver.

If it is something he might have picked up in Africa, my first guesses would be either malaria or dengue fever. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_fever) Dengue has been on the rise this year, and this is one ailment that would definitely be covered under the privacy act.
But who knows, it could be something completely unrelated to his Africa trip. It really could be anything, and since the Ravens aren't telling, we'll probably never know, so it's just about pointless to even discuss it.
We can only hope that whatever it is, he recovers soon, and is back wearing #22 ASAP.

No you don't, you have a wild-ass guess. Here's the difference...
Theory - There's a theory that we are a result of evolution from lesser beings. It's testable and there's significant evidence pointing to the theory of evolution.
Wild-ass guess - I have a wild-ass guess that Rolle has missed practice because he has the Ebola virus, cause "the Ravens want to hide it" (not true), and Ebola is most common in Africa. It's testable, but based on complete conjecture and has absolutely no evidence behind it.

I recall right when Samari was listed with an illness, Billick said something publically to the effect of, "We aren't going to say what he has, because people will say he has XYZ, why can't he play with that?" The problem is a reaction to whatever medication he is taking and not the illness.
Who knows? He could just have hayfever and tried a new medication and it messed him up.

Wow.
Anyway, I know what Samari's condition is - and even though I've agreed to not talk about it on the air until Samari is comfortable making it public knowledge, I can absolutely assure all of you with 1000% certainty that it is NOT anything even remotely related to HIV, as if you all couldn't have figured that out yourselves.
I'm hearing Samari might get in 15-20 snaps this Sunday as the nickel back if all goes well with his practice sessions the rest of the week.
Just wanted to pass that info along to try and stop this foolishness of having someone hint that it could be HIV/AIDS related.

It was probably some obscure African virus or was just exposed to their water, or some other variable that his body was not used to and he got sick. It sounds like the medication that he was taking was also giving him some issues.
That is pretty much what 99% of the posters on here thought anyways.
