Boy are they looking brilliant. They knew Mcnair was washed up. They knew they were going to trade him, so they lock him out of the training facility because they also knew he was a china doll. So they draft Vince Young who is dumb as a box of rocks, but just goes out and plays sandlot ball and it works.

We give up a fourth rounder and pay a ridiculous salary to a guy that looks like he came of the set of Night of the Living Dead. He shows the enthusiasm of a mental patient on 100mg of valium. We got hosed. Did McNair hold a gun to Ozzies head for that ridiculous contract? To add insult to injury we lose AD.

yeah Titans look real smart in the hindsight, even though I think Vince Young is the most overrated QB in the entire league.

The ridiculous contract is what really gets me. Nobody else wanted McNair. He did not have the negotiating leverage to command that whopping $11 million signing bomus. Had we paid him $2-$3 milllion/year for a couple seasons with no bonus, we could have had enough in the kitty to have kept Adalius Thomas, our best defensive player last season. Now our Defense has fallen from premiere to average. Cause & effect. Moreover, we wouldn't have to deal with mega-millions of dead cap space by cutting him next year.

Disagree. I would love to have Vince Young running our offense.

From everything I've read and heard, Vince Young is far from "dumb as a box of rocks," though I understand you're referring to that test, can't remember the name. McNair at the time was an upgrade over Boller.

Our problem of course is we draft too late every year to get the likes of Carson Palmer or Vince Young.

It was the wonderlic test, and he's not too bright.

Remember for every Carson Palmer and Vince Young there is a Tim Couch and Akili Smith.

He had his chance last season...

The McNair Deal is one that got way to much Praise IMHO in the beginning and now is may be picking up a little too much criticism. It wasn't great a move nor was it the worst move ever. It was a good move. I was lukewarm about it because of McNair's injury history and I thought Boller was making progress and might be due for a breakout season . On the other hand it gave us a Pretty good 1-2 tandem and I figured Boller would see playing time during the season and at the most McNair would only play 2 seasons whether we win the SuperBowl or not. For most of last season McNair was not the McNair of Old. There were flashes of the old McNair but many times we saw glimpses of the old Boller. (Stumbling over own feet, tangled feet with Center etc...)
These things were forgiven in short order including the lackluster play in many games because somehow we won. Of course the Colt game was a wake up call to some fans but many of us saw McNair's decline during the two final games of the last years regular season.

I don't think the Titans were particularly geniuses to get rid of McNair. It made sense since they were in midst of rebuilding the team. So why keep an expensive aging vet around The Ravens were going to need another QB any way even if Boller remained the starter so even if they didn't get Mcnair they would have had find a quality QB to backup Boller so they still would have had to spend some money. In the end it might have been less but whether we would have had enough left over to sign AD is still unlikely.

Ahh, that's the name.

I don't know what the wonderlic test calculates but from everything I've read and heard, Vince Young wants to learn, and already knows how to say and do all the right things to endear himself to his fans, his coaching staff, and his teammates. That's what I was referring to.

I brought up draft position because you are more likely to find Carson Palmer and Vince Young at the top of the draft board, and less likely to find them in the mid- to late first round, where we tend to draft.

I just hate to see people crying because we don't have Vince Young or Carson Palmer *here* is all. I can't bear all the tears. :)

They had to because of clowns like you threatening a revolt if Boller started the season at QB.

Stop flip flopping and using hindsight to change the fact that you desparately wanted McNair here.

(And, for the record, I did too).

It didn't work out. So be it.

Dont' be stupid. Even backup QBs get $3 mill/year...look at Boller's deal.

McNair's contract is fine for a starting QB. It's not a ridiculous contract in comparison to similar players throughout the league, unlike some other player's on our team.

Nothing stupid here. Look at the facts (http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/playersbyposition.aspx?pos=118) before spouting off next time. Boller's $3 million is far above most NFL backups, most of whom made around $1 million in 2006. McNair's $ 4 million base salary for 2008 and $6 million for 2009 would place him in the range of the NFL's star players.

Let's put it this way: would you rather have McNair's 6 turnovers and inability to throw over 10 yards, or Adalius Thomas shoring up our now-average defense? Nothing that can be done about it now, but I sure hope our FO seriously considers better ways to spend $4 million this offseason (or $1.8 million in cap).

I don't agree with Mista T about everything he wrote in this thread, but I definitely agree with him about McNair's contract. I was happy we signed him, but we clearly overpaid for him. We could have signed him for less, I am sure -- who were we competing against? It was almost like when the Cowboys overpaid for Terrell Owens, who nobody else wanted. If you are basically the only team that wants a guy, why give him what he wants?

I'm sure some other team would have had an interest in McNair, but they wouldn't have paid him as much as we did.

It's hard to attack him since he's gotten off his, "Boller is the worst QB in NFL history" kick. He's actually had some decent posts that didn't even mention Boller in the last few weeks.
