View Full Version : Self-Loathing Fans?

Ok, I am new to this board but I am seeing something pretty disturbing.

There seems to be an unusually high number of fans who are closet Raven haters. Am I far off on this??? It's not everyone, but the number is high enough it's hard not to notice.

I mean I see people in here who dress up their messages with everything Raven (pictures, quotes, etc.) that make them obvious fans. But when I read what they actually write, it's something from a Steelers fan board. Who cares if Ray was on the sideline for the Atlanta game??? So what you were charged $25 for a cover at his joint??? Has anyone ever heard of the word context???

Im not saying we should all be Kool-Aid drinkers, but when the slamming of our boys in purple lack all common sense, I have to question the posters sanity.

Thoughts???

Well considering you don't know me and you referenced one of my posts I tell you straight up that your wrong.

Just becuase someone posts a topic that you disagree with doesn't mean that they are not a fan.

That fact that you accuse people of being a "closet Raven hater" or whatever the quote was is not true in my case.

Fair enough. And no offense at all to a fellow Ravens fan, but I do think you're being rather petty about the cover charge.

Thanks for your feedback!

Well this is a city where we would rather lose a team than support a bad owner.

A tradition was set in the late 50's with the Colts and the class acts who played for them, and the Orioles in the 60's and 70's. This new class of athelete or owner just doesn't fly here, as we have been spoiled and expect nothing less than excellence!

We are definately not sheep! We will send the soup back to the kitchen.

I think you are way out of line.

Dissent is patriotic, I love my country still.

Likewise I love my Ravens, that doesn't mean I agree with everything they do. That I will or should cast a bind eye to the things they do that I disagree with just because I am a "Fan" is absurd to me.

I am a Baltimorean and I love my city, I will always cheer for the Orioles, and I will always cheer for the Ravens. That doesn't mean the Orioles and Peter Angelos don't piss me off. Also I sometime disagree with things the Raven's and the Players do.

I thought the 25 dollars was reasonable for a guaranteed autograph and VIP seating.

My thoughts are that you are crazy -- you are a new poster and you start off by telling us that we lack all common sense? And you question our sanity? Unless you have just been reading posts by Tex and crazyraven, I have no idea how you came up with those conclusions.

I had no problem with the cover charge for Ray's show, or that Ray wasn't in Hotlanta for the final preseason game. I have a sneaking suspicion noone did..... not really. It's SOOOOO close to "What Time Is It?" for REAL, that when we come here and find no new subjects to comment on, we have to manufacture some, because we are JONESIN' for ..... Altogether now.....GAMETIME!!!!!:hammer:

There are only one or two regular posters here who are not, in my opinion, fans of the Ravens. The most notable one - Tex - exists only to tear the team down, particularly its backup qb. His idea of contributions to the forum are the same post, over and over, complete with mocking smileys and rude nicknames for said quarterback. He is not a fan, he is a stalker.

Besides that, there are plenty of irrational haters and Monday Morning Quarterbacks, but the world of Raven Fandom is big enough for them and for me, too.
Welcome! :toast:

The guy has a point. Many of you live in Baltimore and I have heard of a Baltimore Complex, therefore there is some legitimacy to OP's claim.

BTW never mind Highwiener he has a hard on for Tex and I the size of a Nathan's Coney Island Hot dog. Fucking guy never shuts the fuck up about me, and always claims he will ignore me yet never does. He's just a slug.

Reread what I wrote. I never said everyone one here lacks common sense.

If thats what you read into it, than I think my points has been made.

It's one thing to say things that are honest and critical. It's quite another to be persnickity about every little thing about our boys. ;)

Arent we saying the same thing? I love my home town of Baltimore too. But when people get on here and criticize if Ray was at the last preseason game or if someone was charged a fee to get into a business?

That's just looking for something to complain about. Victims, especially the kind that seek attention, bore the heck out of me.

It really started out as an interesting thread.

The only thing that really ticks me off on message boards is bad manners. Now you've gone ahead and called all those who don't agree with your opinion about this or that 'victims' who 'bore' you.

Well, if you like it here, stay. You are welcome. But don't stick around if my fellow posters or I "bore" you. Really.

Shocker... people complain... this isn't something new that you only see about the Ravens, I haven't ever been apart of a situation where everyone just agrees with one another and drink the same kool aid all day long.

This board has always been more interesting because of the conflicting point of views and even some of the negativity that comes with it, if you don't like it, well you don't have to post or read. Rather simple if you ask me.

Just because you are a fan of something doesn't mean there is no room for criticism. The Ravens are an organization made up of many different individuals with all sorts of different personalities. I can be a fan of the Ravens and still think McGahee is a tool, or that Ray's dance is stupid, or that Boller is a no talent hack.

Thats not what I said at all ... and the fact you've taken this personal only proves my point.

Of course criticsm is good. It's the fans that whine about everything AND anything that bore me. If that tag some how hits home for you, I dont think I am that far off in MY criticism.

Wow ... its amazing how many people took exception to my crisiticsm when I didnt name one name.

Lemme be clear .... criticism is damn good and healthy. We would not be true fans without it. I am calling out the people who criticise anything and everything about our boys. I am calling out the people who NEVER say anything GOOD about our team, ever! By no means am I a kool-aid drinker who bleeds purple. I have issues with things like the O Line, playcalling and the decision to keep some players this past week.

Being a fan means you like the team -- thats the root of being a fan. I find boring the victim-mentality of some fans who find nothing good about our team.

If this all some how hits home with some of you, then the problem is with yourselves, not with me and my criticism.

This would have a little credibility if not for the fact that you just joined this board a couple of weeks ago. Who are these people to whom you are referring who "NEVER say anthing good about our team?" You haven't been here long enough to draw any reasonable conclusions.

But of course, if you are just looking for attention, I guess you don't really need to be here long enough to draw reasonable conclusions, you can just whine like an infant. Mission accomplished.

*That's* what bothers me.

Showing up and being rude is troll like behavior. The ball is in your court. If you care to contribute to the dialogue in some meaningful way, fine. If your whole existence here is to nettle and be obnoxious, fine. Be a troll.

Did you even read my initial post? I admit I am new. And I didnt point out anyone. Simply made an observation.

And judging by the reaction to those (you included), I think I hit the proverbial nail square on the head.

Uh, you're not proving any points.

You made a sweeping generalization about "all these people who criticize anything and everything" all while being on here for a short period of time.

Name the people you are talking about.

What you've done is acted the part of a guy who comes to a party late and is loud and annoying.

You jumped to a conclusion about "certain" posters who you won't name and then get all defensive when people call you out on it.

You would've been better served just commenting on the Ray Lewis cover charge topic instead of using that as your backdrop into your ridiculous generalization.

Maybe you should just try to wipe the slate clean and talk about the Ravens and not about some other posters that you won't name.

Simply made an observation based on my admitted short time here. And when I did so without calling out any names, a bunch of people came out of the wood work doing EXACTLY what I observed. That's what proved my point. It's kinda like when someone denies something when they are not asked directly -- thou doth protest too much!

... and I did comment on the cover charge topic and numerous others.

Your point was that people criticize the Ravens too much without giving then any praise whatsoever.

People coming out of the woodwork to dispute your observation isn't the same as people criticizing the Ravens too much without praising them.

In fact, it has nothing to do with the Ravens at all.

PP You make it sound as if he wasn't specific, He was. From his initial post he stated the problems he had with posters who were opposed to the way people treat ray. It's true people tore ray up about the 25 buck cover and for also missing the Atlanta game. He doesn't want to name names. I can understand that being new and all. However if it was me I would speak up, we are all big boy and girls here and can all take criticism. for example I have absolutely no problem speaking up when highwater is acting like a dick. He does the same too.
